Ghost in the City: Cyberpunk Gamer SI

Okay I think I know what's been bugging me about this arc, at first I thought it was that it was too focused on music for my taste but no because I genuinely enjoyed the earlier points in the story where Motoko starts playing. What I've started to dislike are her chooms, it's becoming more and more apparent that Motoko's unhappy with her rockergirl "career" but all of her friends seem to not care one bit about that, even stopping to search for gigs (hiromi in the previous chapter), it feels like they're saw the MC's rise to fame and went "Oh well we can coast on that, no need to go for edgerunning anymore" even though it's thanks to Motoko and it makes her unhappy. She seemed a lot more invested in her rockergirl skills when she was doing it just for fun or to destress. WHICH is what she wanted to keep it as in the beginning [...]

For all Mokoto is appearing well put together, she and her friends are at the core still teens in a field that not just eats its own young but commonly does its best to mimic active warzones.

The boys are fine with 'safe' grunt work that S9 got them and Hirumi would be crushed if Mokoto up and left her Rockergal gig for more easy exposure and on the job training mostly.

Her 'bandmates' on the other hand fully deserve the leech label, on that I agree with your assessment.

My hope for the future is that one or both of the background chucklefucks get a big enough head to start shit with Mokoto only to flop hard, for MSM and Alex to really get greedy and get a tactical Major to the face and to their servers and for S9 to gracefully retire the Boys to Specialist roles, have Hirumi get an admin assistant and Mokoto to go on a recruiting outing to get some more institutional knowledge by way of vets and other assorted contacts that let S9 grow into itself and her softly spoken credo of quiet professionalism and the possibility of utter carnage for a fair price.

S9 will hopefully never not be a collection of loot goblins that take everything not nailed down and then go back for prybars!

Edit: minor change of style for readability and my inbaked need to sound profound

I might be in the minority, but i think it is a good thing she has hobbies other than mass homicide.
The problem isn't her having a hobby, it's that the hobby is bringing her more frustration than the murder does. Heck, I think her most relaxing hobby right now is the programming

The problem, I think, is that Motoko doesn't really care about being a 'Rockerboy'. She likes the music, she likes to sing, she likes the energy, but everything else is essentially just an annoyance to her. Her friends, and even her family don't get it, it's nice, it's safe, you get fame and fortune without having to risk your life everyday, in other words it's practically a dream job! Motoko doesn't care, music is essentially a hobby to her, a side-gig, something that's fun for her to do every once in a while when the stars align and everyone just shuts up and lets her sing her heart out. Ultimately I think that, for the most part, they mean well, they see that their friend is amazingly talented at something and they want to help support her in rising as high as they know she can, they just don't understand her lack of passion, and that passion is what she really wants out of life.

Unfortunately it's fairly obvious that her music career is gonna crash and burn. There's just too many demands on her and her time, her 'band-mates' aren't really friends and aren't in this to goof off and have fun like she is, the politics are only going to ramp up from here, and Motoko doesn't care to fight it because none of this really matters to her anyway. Sooner or later (and likely sooner rather than later) this part of her life is going to get so insistent and annoying that she just... walks away. And at that point nobody is going to be able to wheedle her into going back because it won't be fun anymore, it won't be making music, just dealing with a bunch of whiny, petty bullshit. And that's fine when music is your passion, and there's nothing else you'd rather do, but that just isn't Motoko at all.

Anyway, regardless of all that, thanks for the chapter Seras, I can't wait to see the way this goes
Tbh, I think that's been pretty consistent throughout the entire story. Her friends have routinely not really cared for Motoko and more just about what they can get out of her. When Motoko had amnesia at the start, Hiromi dragged her into a potentially dangerous situation without even telling her, which led to Motoko killing someone and having a mental breakdown. This was then followed by Motoko going off in the middle of the night and nearly throwing her life away seemingly to try and get revenge on scavs. Anyone would look at that and be like 'yes, we probably should try and hold an intervention', Motoko's friends didn't. Worse they accepted far more money than they realistically should have from her, despite money in Cyberpunk equalling strength and safety due to the existance of cyberware. Again, a normal person would have looked at that and been like 'if you're going to keep doing this, you should keep this money and buy something that'll keep you safe'; the fact that they didn't implies they didn't care enough to even consider this.

This compounds as you get further into the story, with people like Hiromi consistently putting her business interests before Motoko's wellbeing, taking jobs the group wasn't ready for out of nothing but vanity (which almost leads to Motoko's death, again) or going behind Motoko's back to all but force her to become a rockerboy. Likewise no one seems to give enough of shit to even try and understand the current Motoko; when something comes up like their friend crying upon seeing pictures of all the kids she helped with Vic, they just give her weird looks and walk away. When she explicitly goes to her friends to ask for advice on how not to kill the gang of kids helping that netrunner, her friends and even Jun turned around and told her to get over herself and kill them. Hell they seemed to have more investment in that mission than Motoko did given how hard they pushed for it. And that investment was entirely fixated on trampling on Motoko's wants and morals

To me there's a clear pattern of people disregarding Motoko down to who she even is as a person, and that kinda makes me upset spaghet given that I'm a fan of hers

One day Motoko will be Michael Jackson famous.
I think she will be that with a mix of Christopher Lee. A bunch of random cool shit like being a spy, a Knight,, an actor, a musician, etc.

Hirumi would be crushed if Mokoto up and left her Rockergal gig
I might be in the minority, but i think it is a good thing she has hobbies other than mass homicide.
There is like a very wide dissonance between frameworks. Like Hiromi cares about Motoko but Hiromi
Is a corpo; her way of caring and even fomenting hobbies is basically turn them into business and making money with them. The like clash between them both hasn't really happened but it will need to happen specially if Hiromi wants, as is very apparent, be something more or even more "real". I mean Hiromi is trying her best to keep up with Motoko and back her up but the only way she knows and sees how is by being a corpo. It is just through both Motoko's and the readers' Out of Context views that all seems all kind of fucked up, not with just some of Hiromi's actions but the rest of her friends, which are teens in a dystopia.

Like nobody understands how liking doing music and not trying to make money out of it doesn't go hand in hand. It just does not compute. Error 404, or something.

Hiromi is probably, also, one of Motoko's healthiest relationships and Hiromi can't see how she could be even friends with Motoko if she ain't useful for Motoko. Like that in context can be very toxic.

Much of the shit that Motoko is pulling up with her friendships is because a) they are teens and b) she lives in a dystopia and that's fucked up.

Another thing to note is that, while their relationships are somewhat fucked up, her pals are in fact trying to help her even at their worst. Take the SLS situation as an example, sure they start off saying to just kill them, but as soon as Motoko says she definitely doesn't want to they're scheming up a plan to avoid a pile of bodies. They don't keep pushing, they don't decide going over her head on it is a good idea, they just accept that for some reason Motoko thinks killing those people her own age isn't worth doing, and pivot.

They're good chooms, it's just the wrong city for them to be the right people.

To clarify, I don't care about Hiromi, on any level really. I just think that Matoko needs to be in more situations where killing people isnt a goal or viable solution.

I can get killing people for jobs, its Night Shitty. I can even get behind wiping out certain gangs for stress relief. But it's not conducive to good mental health. Or avoiding excessive attention from people like Maxtac.

I don't think 'it's Night City' is a good enough excuse when it comes to characters you're supposed to like, especially ones that seem to be being set up for a relationship with the mc. Judy, Panam and River are all in fucked situations, but their emotional outbursts or failed attempts at apathy all come from a place of caring too much, even as Night City does its absolute best to destroy them.

Honestly I don't think it's as bad as you're saying OneFallLeaf, it's like... okay, you want to know what a bad friendship actually looks like in Night City? It looks like betrayal, it looks like outright theft, it looks like selling you out to the highest bidder, caving the second you get put under pressure, or just outright abandoning you when shit gets tough. Now, I'm not gonna say that Motoko's friends are perfect, or that they're even very good friends, because as you pointed out, they're not. They're fine with riding on her coattails, generally happy to take advantage of her generosity, they're pushing her to do things she isn't entirely comfortable with because it's either good for them, or because it's something they would want if they were in Motoko's position, without really considering if that's what she wants... but well, that's just kinda normal? They're dumb kids, and they're acting like dumb kids. I don't think that they secretly resent Motoko, or that they rub their hands together cackling as they scheme about how to take advantage of her, they just think stuff like 'Oh wow, my friend's going to be a Rockerboy, that's great! What do you mean you aren't sure about this?! This is awesome, you've gotta at least try!' and so on, and so forth. I think Motoko is a better friend to her friends then they are to her, but friendship isn't about 'keeping track' or 'keeping score' anymore than any other relationship is.

And it's not like Motoko can't be pushy either. She pushes her friends into actually improving themselves even though they're a bunch of lazy street kids that just want to fuck around all day, she pushed them into forming Section 9 and getting way more serious, way more quickly then they seemed to be actually comfortable with, she pushed Hiromi into managing her everything (basically serving as a personal Fixer handling everything from Edgerunning to record deals), she pushed Jun into actually dealing with his problems instead of stubbornly ignoring them all and self-destructing like he wanted to... and so on, and so forth. Now, you might say, 'Isn't she just pushing her friends (and family) to overcome their issues and become better people?' and you'd be right! Just like how her friends think they're helping Mokoto get over her silly reservations about her Rockerboy career so that she can become rich and famous, which is obviously what's best for her. See what I mean? Part of caring about someone means that you can meddling little shit at times, not because you hate a person or because you want to take advantage of them, but because you think you know what's best for them, because people can be unconsciously biased and arrogant like that. Honestly, I think that Motoko and her friends are at least trying to do right by each other, and in a place like Night City? Trying isn't everything, but it certainly counts for a lot in my book.

Yeah I was being a bit hypobolic to try and get my point across. So, to be clear, I don't think her friends are the worst, nor do I even think she should drop them or anything. At most I'd put my position as being against a relationship between Motoko and Hiromi. My original comment was more an attempt to explain why people might have a niggling feeling in the back of their minds that Motoko is being taken for a ride, which spun out because I felt the need to explain my reasoning in case the take wasn't popular. As for the rest, they can be dumb kids and people are free to dislike them for that. And yeah, I don't think any of them are secret masterminds, my point was more about self-centered disinterest piling up and souring the perception of characters we should probably like more from a story telling perspective. As for the point about being pushy, Hiromi didn't just stop at that, she also went behind Motoko's back and started arranging shit despite outright being told not to. Which obviously isn't the same thing

Again, it's not just being pushy and I also disagree with some of your examples here. Like Ichi asked Motoko for more work and Malcolm just kinda came along. She's since pushed for training yes, but they've also bailed out of that several times and it's literally the job that they all signed on for - and it's a very different context when you're paying people to do work. As for Hiromi, she offered to manage the scav hardware sale from the get-go, and has consistently pushed for that position as it became clear that she had ptsd and wasn't really suited for frontline work. As for Jun, I understand the point you're trying to make, but do you understand how forcing someone into commercialising their hobby is completely different from trying to save your brother's life? As for your final point, I wouldn't have a problem if it was as you were portraying. If it was just some friends excitedly cheering for her to become a Rockstar while she was a bit on the fence about it, I'd honestly think of them as good friends. The problem is everything that comes before that, as well as people not just stopping at that

…It's Night City. The literally worst place to live in the entire world in Cyberpunk 2077. The friendship she has now would be considered toxic in out time, but in Night City? They're basically chooms for life.

Yeah, the manufactured music thing she now has going on is going to go down in flames sooner or later, that's becoming obvious. At the moment, Motoko could care less, as she demonstrated with Carmen the whiny ass.

To me personally, while I like the music bits, the real fun stuff has started. She's getting the needed info for the Heist, and I can't wait to see the results.

This to me still feels like early days of the rockerboy career. Everyone thinks of her as up and coming teen talent, and they haven't really connected her to Assassin Kensei Ghost in the Shell super genius deadly badass that she is.

One day someone is going to cross a line and give her a reason, and people are going to start connecting the dots on just how absurdly dangerous this girl is, and suddenly, her music career is going to go back to being as relaxing as she wanted it to be in the first place.

Edit: Like other people have mentioned 'something' is going to blow up in 'someone's' face. Maybe even this heist might be the 'incident' thats comimg up, but I don't think its going to end with Motoko's career in flames. She's a rocker boy 10, that's the literal best a human can possibly be without tech to make her voice a memetic hazard or some shit, and celeb scandal gets ignored all the time. Also Hiromi is genuinely dedicated to Motoko, she was invested *before* Motoko became a gamer, and I have no doubt Hiromi will do everything in her power to get what she thinks Motoko wants and/or whats best for her, as family does, which right now is a rockerboy career.

Somethings gonna happen, people are gonna get a clue that the teen kicks ass, and I'm sure there'll be complications (maybe a corp wants her for her other skills), but I have faith the dice are gonna fall Motoko.

WHICH is what she wanted to keep it as in the beginning: a hobby that helps her destress. Anyway, regardless of all that, thanks for the chapter Seras, I can't wait to see the way this goes

Honestly, I'm not sure for how long this rockerboy arc can stretch. It feels like either she'll piss off millitech, and if the author is feeling it right, some of her teamates might not live past it. Either way, she either gets to boss around the music gig on her terms, or Alex's interference (chain cause and effect) / militech will make her leave that passtime aside. It was not nice of Hiromi to be this pushy, though, if you think about it realistically, her atttempts to get money without pulling too dangerous things while making sure Matoko's talent isn't burried ain't bad either. The other boys of the team, besides being there to make up the team number as convenient drivers and extra muscle... Even the yakuza princess has had more of an impact on the story than them. The fact that they are not very keen on training and also somewhat pushy against Matoko's wishes is enough to push their character rating from mid to filler, possibly set to die by circumstance since the beginning.

Anyway, the story still has much to go, given that she is still almost completely meat, and just a year passed. Given the pace I kind of doubt the story will be finished, even if it is one of the best I've read... feels like the rockerboy arc is an attemt to paint and texture the story, and while that is much apreciated, it shows the cracks. For now, I don't think we have derailed from the main story the author intended to tell, but this arc is a beefy deviation which better be satisfying to be worth so much the author's energy and time—I'd much rather have a complete story than a layered knot the author got tangled in at the end.

Seras, fantastic work throughout the whole story, can't wait for more. The only aspect I might resent is Motoko's delay in trying to focus her engenieering on upgrading cybreware or building what she needs herself. And the slow pacing sets on other worries, given the sparse update schedule I can see these later months... please don't burn out leaving us with half a story. I am baffled how it took me this long to find it, honestly, top 3 of all cyberpunk fanfiction. Solid 10/10.

There was also that moment where Motoko well-intentionedly convinced Hiromi that it's not shameful to be a corpo. And pushing back against her doing corpo things when it's not outright harming any of their friend group would kind of send mixed signals there.

Hmm... Considering one of the comments above, this being NC, this might be indeed the best friendship that can be hoped for. I cast my doubts on the dudes, but between Hiromi's crush and the mutual benefit, I guess that betrayal is highly unlikely. Regardless of how pushy they are, they are more likely to defend Motoko in the critical moment than shoot her in the back for some $. Some "toxicity" is preferable to outright distrust or betrayal, and, Motoko should be able to either make everyone adapt to her relaxation needs, or push back and tell them to f off.

Chapter 246 New
Each of the showrooms' halls were completely different from others. Like walking through a mall, and walking into completely different shops, and yet, each of them carried many of the same things.

There was one hall all about robotics which was very interesting, as that was practically the reason for the heist in the first place, although nothing on the Flathead drone or anything. This was all stuff that was already out on the market obviously.

Still I took my time looking through it all.

"If you'd like, we can always custom design a drone style. Perhaps an assistant of sorts for you on stage?"

"It's a cute idea, but no." I denied Tyler as I looked over some of the floating drone systems Militech offered. The Zetatech Bombus might be the standard, but Militech had of course designed their own.

I was mostly looking at the flight system wondering if grabbing a few and updating some of the Tachikoma to be flight models.

I mean, sure the real Tachikoma had been basically tanks, but my drones were much smaller, there more for support than anything, so why should I keep them all standard?

It would give them a bit more deviation in their development as well!

Turning away we moved on, this time into the fanciest hall so far.

"I suppose if you need to raid some corpo asset, and hit the party right after, this is what you want huh?" I asked, noticing the armored corpo suits, and even briefcases, and designer handbags that could be used as armor, or carry internal weapons.

"Indeed! We supply all customers, from the street level to the highest corporate offices." Tyler offered, and I nodded looking around. There was a lot of fancy stuff made to look fancy and this time I rather quickly shook my head and left. That wasn't my style at all.

And finally on the second floor we came to the stuff I was interested in.

"Oh nice." I whispered looking over the vehicle displayed prominently as we entered.

"The Hellhound caught your eye? Not the usual vehicle of a Rockerboy, but I can promise that you'll get to and from your concerts unhindered in this baby." Tyler offered, and I just shook my head.

"No just commenting on it." I said to the man, and we moved on. Vehicle equipment was the next hall. Militech CrystalDome packages, which if my Quadra didn't already have I'd pick up. Machine gun inserts, missile pods. They had it all laid out through the hall, and I looked through it all, although while Tyler was still trying to make a sale, Alex wasn't as supportive as usual.

I guess MSM wasn't interested in supporting vehicle stuff for Militech.

Although I could imagine an ad of me getting into a fight in one of those Hellhound APC's and then pulling up to a concert…

Should I say something?

Nah, maybe another time.

Instead we continued on, and I smiled as we hit the more standard military hardware.

Racks of fresh from factory Achilles, stood beside a display showing the lovely Mk.31 HMG. Display dummies showed men in armor rather similar to 6th St. Carrying Ajax with a chest rig.

I went through the weapons, but there was nothing there I really wanted. Nothing good enough to get me excited.

I wasn't going to find unique one off weapons in a showroom like this, this was the place they sold the mass produced stuff.

I did look through the weapon attachments, and found one thing I did like. "The Kanone Mini is a good choice! You have an eye for quality, it comes with a range finder, compass, target assistance finder, and ammo counter if it's integrated into your weapons systems." Tyler offered as I looked at the red dot sight that I'd picked up from their display, turning it on I looked through it and nodded.

I had one or two already attached to weapons, but the issue with scavs, or salvage in general is often you got something that someone else hadn't properly taken care of.

"I'll take one. I'll buy it myself though." I quickly added as Hiromi was about to jump in, she nodded.

"That's fine. Not everything has to be part of an ad campaign." She offered, and Tyler quickly joined in.

"Of course! I'll make a note, and take care of that Motoko, our showroom is happy to have you as a customer." Tyler played it off, and I soon had a small box with an optic I casually started tossing up and down as we went.

The next showroom also caught my eye as we finally hit something I was really interested in.

"Cyberware." I whispered, hurrying forward as I looked over the examples they had set out. Instantly I had to hide a frown though.

Obviously everything was fairly standard. No special ops, or secret builds here.

Sure some of the equipment would be useful, I definitely could use a few pieces I was eyeing, up, but…. Uuugh. I had to resist! No chipping in! I had something big I needed to prepare for.

Honestly, I really needed to get some more stat points soon, actually.

I shook it off despite going through the hall, seeing the sort of stuff Militech sold.

Skin weaves, to protect against different effects. Sometimes a cyborg needed to be able to withstand fire, or incredible cold, or worse things.

But I moved through it all, all the while bouncing the optic in my hand, using it as a distraction, that I'd look up at from time to time.

Ah, there.

As we moved through the showroom, I made sure to head towards the back where there was obviously a large elevator that led to the storage rooms. As we moved past it, I shifted and accidently bumped into Hiromi, yelping, I reached for the optic, and ended up swatting it right out of the air behind me.

"Ah, Motoko, I'll get-"

"Nah it's fine." I waved off Tyler, already hurrying over, eyes scanning.

The elevators had more than just a locked pad, but actual sensors, any attempt to use the thing would alert someone.

Good to know.

Unless we could bring down the sensor net, the elevators would have to be crossed off.

I picked up my little package and smiled at Tyler who was sort of worrying at me.

"My bad. No worries. Hey are those Sandys?" I asked, refocusing, as we moved away from the elevator.

—--

Of course I had to pay for their time.

We were back down in the center of the showroom. I'd gathered probably everything I could, and now the place was swarming with people from Militech's media arm. My own MSM makeup artist was here as well. Buzzing around me, as Hiromi and Alex talked to a new Militech corpo. They were trying to set up an ad of some sort.

I mostly was just ignoring it, as I wiggled my new boots.

They were kinda nova. Made me want to kick someone or something.

Maybe I should max out street brawling and do a fighting BD? That could be-

"Motoko?"

"Hmm?" I looked up and smiled at Hiromi as she wandered towards me.

"It's going to take a bit, they're trying to figure out what to do here." She waved towards the Militech guys who were still arguing as the camera crew kept running around trying different shots here and there…

I rolled my eyes. Seriously, it had already been like half an hour. I looked around, cause I was already bored, and I'd like to get out of here and start planning a heist…

Everything was already here, cameras, crew, they had a few… Actresses? Models? Hanging around seemingly just in case.

There must be some kind of issue… I looked at the Militech guys…

Fuck it. I'll do it myself.

"It's just the boots right?"

"Well, yes, but they are trying to throw a few other things in." Hiromi told me, and I nodded.

"Okay… Okay fine I have an idea. Go get me one of the knives they're selling would you?" I asked her, as I moved off, knowing Hiromi would jump to do as I asked. I walked up to the camera guys. "Sup chooms. This is taking too long, how many cameras we got?"

"Uh, three?"

"Preem. So here's what we're going to do-No no don't look at your boss, he's busy you're talking to me right now." I ordered, my voice striking out and nearly making the older guy flinch as I hammered at him. "Now, come with me." I ordered, and they followed, hesitating a bit, but they were doing it.

Let's see… Knife, action set piece… Yeah that would work. "Hey you three! Come here." I walked past the actresses that had been all made up a while ago, and with a demand inflecting my voice just so, they all did as I bid.

Now… "Okay we need to get you three set up, hey makeup! This one, she needs to be the bad guy, so get her hooked up-"

Hiromi Mitsunashi

Hiromi wasn't sure what Motoko was up to, at least at first, but after coming back and listening in she understood.

Of course Motoko would just… Do it herself.

She wanted to giggle at the older workers all listening to her commands despite the fact their bosses were still arguing… Damn in fact Alex might be giving up soon.

"Motoko."

"Ah perfect, just what I needed." She said, taking the knife and grinning at Hiromi with that cocky grin she got when she had everything completely under control.

Hiromi wanted to stick close to have more of that attention on her, but..

Well, needs must.

She turned around and walked around Alex so she was facing what was going on, and drew both men's attention away from all the activity starting up.

"Listen gentlemen. We-" She fell into a rhythm, mostly interrupting whenever things slowed down. Alex had picked up that she was up to something but couldn't figure out what she was doing.

It was why she was Motoko's Manager and not him. He would just get in her way.

And then it got started, everyone was in place, and a call went out.

"Quiet on the set!" The voice startled both of the men she was with, and Hiromi just grinned.

Mission successful.

She reached out before the media guy could say anything and grabbed his arm tight, stopping him from marching over.

And she brought a hand to her lips telling him to be silent.

Then it didn't matter because they all heard gunshots!

Hiromi jolted, a spike of adrenaline as she noticed the drone cameras moving.

The gunshots came from upstairs, in one of the showrooms, but the attention was mostly on the bottom floor.

Some of the crew were wearing military style equipment, but any sign of Militech was hidden away, they spread out, guns searching in a military movement, and then there was motion.

Hiromi only kept her gasp quiet from being well used to Motoko.

She leapt off the balcony, facing backwards firing into 'something' that was up there, before flipping around and landing in a crouch, her new boots silent on the tile floor.

There was a moment of silence that was real, because the fake 'guards' weren't sure what to do, but one of them must have remembered a line?

He brought his gun up.

"Shoot her!" He shouted, the voice crack he made only seemed to add to it, making it sound like fear, but Hiromi couldn't tear her eyes off Motoko.

She rose, slowly, every muscle shifting under her tight pants, and there was a sensuous danger as she opened her eyes, her face carefully blank.

Then she moved, Sandevistan!?

A knife flashed, as she suddenly stopped, showing it to the camera hovering nearby before it cut in, and stabbed into the grip of a rifle one of the girls had, then it was pushed away she was swept off her feet a moment later, and was practically held by Motoko as she slowly lowered the woman down, but..

She realized it would look like she stabbed down as well killing her to the camera.

Then she moved again, and like a whirlwind, despite the guards trying to bring up weapons, none of them ever seemed to do it right as Motoko spun, and twirled through them, slicing, a rifle strap right off one person, taking their weapon and flipping it around to smack into another, with an actual sound of pain. Kicking out with her boots knocked guns up and out of the way, and then finally one of the girls tried to run, and Hiromi wasn't entirely sure it wasn't real fear.

Then a boot slammed into the wall right where the girl was heading, and Hiromi winced.

She'd bashed her head into Motoko's leg.

There was a moment, Hiromi realized that wasn't part of the plan, but Motoko didn't even hesitate, shifting, and stomping her foot next to the woman as she lay practically flat on her back.

"If you want to stay on your feet. You should have chosen Militech." Hiromi felt her face brighten into an evil grin.

Oh Motoko. You absolute madwomen!

Then with her boot covering the woman's face, she leaned down completely hiding the woman from view and making a motion like she killed her, revealing the militech knife Hiromi had given her slightly covered in blood. The Militech logo on full display right next to her boots and the Lexington held in her other hand. The camera drone zooming right up to all three to get them into frame.

"Cut!" One of the operators called out and Motoko slumped.

"Hey you okay, sorry about that." She offered, and instantly started helping out the woman on the floor beside her.

Hiromi wanted to run over and dive into Motoko's arms, to squeal and tell her how amazing she was, but instead she took a step forward in front of the Militech Media corpo. Whatever his name was.

It wasn't important.

"I believe that footage should leave everyone satisfied?" She asked, although there was no question, the man's face was a bit slackjawed.

First time dealing with Motoko, tended to do that to someone.

—---

"Okay so you got all you need now right?" I asked, having gone through the whole thing a few times letting them get different 'scenes' of the ads from different angles as they wanted.

We'd basically ignored the Militech Media guy, while the camera workers helped gather up all the scenes we needed. After my first initial rush, the professionals had stepped in, and I stopped having to order everyone around.

I was fairly satisfied and everyone was nice and respectful which was good.

"All done Miss Motoko."

"Yes." I thrust my fist into the sky, finally freedom! We could finally get back to what I-

"Miss Kusanagi. Thank you for your efforts today." The Militech Media guy walked up, grabbed a bottle of water from a table and offered it to me, a smile on his face that just sent warning signs in my brain.

It was fake.

"Ah sure, no problem."

"I was very impressed with your efforts, and Militech is very interested in some future work."

"That'll need to go through my Manager." I said instantly, taking the bottle but not drinking it, and instead I walked off towards Hiromi, quickly, finding her and Alex both talking, although Hiromi was fully smug.

"Motoko."

"Motoko, that was exemplary! We have to get you in front of cameras more often-"

"Maybe." I said, waving off Alex as he was a bit too hyper for my taste. "Hiromi we done? Can we finally get out of here?" I asked her, and she smirked.

"Yes Motoko, we're all finished. If you want to leave, we can leave." She said firmly, and that was that for me. I grabbed my stuff, and Hiromi joined me, escorting me out, as Tyler quickly rushed over.

"Please let me escort you out, is there anything else Militech can do for you?" I mostly just smiled awkwardly through the conversation but shrugged.

"I did use up some of my ammo for the shoot."

"Of course! We're very thankful you shot the back pieces you had set up beforehand, there was a bit of an issue at first with you shooting."

"Oh yeah, I figured shooting an armored rig would be better than a wall. I guess I could probably sign the rigging as well before I leave. Could be a good lit-"

"Yes." Hiromi said instantly, sweeping up my arm and then tugging me towards the second floor…

Aww man. Should have kept my mouth shut.

—--

"I'm so glad we finally ditched him." I grumbled, my Quadra purring as I pulled out onto the street. Alex had stuck to me like glue since the showcase, chatting about all sorts of ideas to boost my appearance.

Not literally, mostly, but like how well I was known to the common people.

All the while I was desperate to get away so I could do what I actually wanted.

"It's over now. You did amazing Motoko. I've already received a few potential offers from Militech. If that ad does well, then they'll be even more insistent."

"Funny how Militech is so interested, instead of Arasaka."

"Oh I'm sure we'll get some interest on that side too. I've already had to submit some forms to ensure you won't be targeted as a potential asset denial operation."

"Oh… That's too bad." I said a bit forlornly, and Hiromi perked up.

"Don't worry! I won't let Arasaka target you! We'll get you famous through MSM and Militech and Arasaka will be happy to scoop you up to show off how much better their stuff is! So there won't be any threat."

"I mean, I kinda wish Arasaka did send some kill squads after me." I denied what she said.

Man. Having some Arasaka ninja's to fight sounded awesome.

"Ah… Of course. I forgot who I was talking to." Hiromi said, sending me a slightly annoyed look.

"What?"

"Nothing, as always you're just impossible. Did you get what you needed?"

"Partially. With the BD I recorded, Yoko's data, and access points, my netrunning team should be able to get in a lot easier. I'll want to do another solo op around the building, checking out the storage entrance Militech will use But yeah. I think I got most of it."

"Netrunner Team?"

"Well, I could probably do it myself, but if I pull in some help it'll come a lot easier."

"Who were you thinking?"

"Ah well… I was thinking about talking to Lucy, and Kiwi, or… Sasha I guess…" I grumbled feeling myself frown at the idea of asking her for help. Would she even be able to stealth?

No, I knew she could. I shouldn't besmirch her talent, she was good. Really good, even if she played around a lot.

Ignoring that for a moment, I focused on the now. I could put away that problem. "Anyway, once we have the set up all done, Section 9 will be enough to gather what we need… Although. I want to do it even more by the book than usual."

"Oh?"

"We need to steal some gang vehicles. Maybe Raffen? Heck we might want to dress up as well. If there is any mistake and Militech finds out, they won't just let it go. They'll track us down through any way they can."

"Are you sure we need to go to that extent?"

"Sure? No. But I want to anyway. We should call Dakota, might pick up a side job for the equipment."

"Pretend to be Raffen Shiv? It would give us a good exit choice."

"Right. If we head anywhere in the city we could be tracked, but if we head out to the badlands, and then disappear? Come back in our normal cars in short bursts? Militech won't think a bunch of kids can steal from them."

"Alright. I'll reach out to Dakota… I'll keep it vague just mention we're looking for work? Maybe mention some deniable vehicles at best?"

"You think she won't figure it out?" I asked cause while the desert was big, Dakota was the main fixer out there.

"No. She will… I'll have to cut her in." Hiromi sighed, slumping in the seat. We weren't exactly making a lot of eddies on this op.

"Better to cut her in on a small bit than have her just sell us out. Remind her how many favors the Aldecaldos owe me or something."

"That's not a bad angle." Hiromi muttered, and her eyes flashed into a call.

Then…

I slumped, I was going to have to call her wasn't I?

I hesitated, but then felt my back straighten. Fine. I wasn't afraid of her or anything!

The call started and very quickly got picked up.

"Meowshi Meowshi! Niymiao! Kitten is calling me!? I'm -"

I hung up.

A/N Hi! Been a bit huh? I got Carpal Tunnel pretty bad so that's the hold up on all postings. But with answers and plans for surgery and stuff, I at least can start writing again. If slowly.

"I mean, I kinda wish Arasaka did send some kill squads after me." I denied what she said.

I mean, talk with V, that could be arranged; V probably has some incompetent asshole that she could use an excuse to get rid off, and so she could discreetly funnel some of the less competent 'Saka Kill teams for him to try to pull a asset denial OP, and then when it inevitably fails, fall on him like a sack of bricks for going after what's at least partially a 'Saka asset and associate. And you get to fight some 'Saka Ninjas, even if not the cream of the crop. :p

Motoko gets shit done.

She'd bashed her head into Motoko's leg.

Not legendary, not on its own, but better than the previous commercial she was involved in. I expect it might eventually ascend in to legendary status when the full story leaks, and Motoko is more of a known name.

"I believe that footage should leave everyone satisfied?" She asked, although there was no question, the man's face was a bit slackjawed.
With no contract negotiated beforehand? Sounds dangerous.

If you were actually going to take it seriously, the first step would have been not going on a VIP tour of the target two days before the heist. The second step would be minimizing the number of people who know about the heist.

"Meowshi Meowshi! Niymiao! Kitten is calling me!? I'm -"

I hung up.
Wow. She really keeps it turned up to 11. And Motoko responds appropriately.

answers and plans for surgery and stuff
Oof, that can be super painful. I'm glad you have answers and plans for the future, one of the worst things is having pain and not knowing whats wrong.

I hope things only improve for you from here on out! Thank you for continuing sharing this awesome story, in spite of the challenges you've faced.

"And that was Motoko 'I do my own stunts' Kusanagi! Up next we have a sizzling hot sneak peak from next seasons city street wear from Arasaka! I hear they have a new shoe line that will let you run higher and jump faster!"
