Questionable Questing

They're just..a remarkably worse system, from an in-setting perspective. A single use chemical state heat absorber is so much worse than the classic 'normal fucking heatsink'. Beyond allowing any enemies who also use the system to loot your clips, it reintroduces resource constraints into a system where practically unlimited, continuous fire was possible with the right ammo choice.

If eliminating the need to worry about overheating and cooling to allow a more rapid return to firing is more important to them than ensuring that you won't cease to be able to fire, then a better system would have been using a rotation of integrated heat sinks. Either add a second heat sink and a mechanism for cycling the two between 'in use' and 'cooling',

or divide the existing heatsink like...two or three ways, then do the same thing. The effectiveness of the heatsink systems will increase greatly if heat can be vented amid sustained fire, even if the actual heat capacity doesn't increase.

I was pretty pissed off to find out that ME: Andromeda still used the same fucking system. Glad I didn't pick the game yet, it has some cool features but remind me too much of Dragon Age: Inquisition with a SciFi paintjob.

From what my brother (who bought the game) tells me there are weapons that recharge instead of reload. Also Conrad Verner shares your opinion, there's a whole conversation you can have with him about it in three.

Thermal Clips were a mistake.

The original hybrid system from the trailers was pretty cool though

It's a dummied out feature in ME2. You find less thermal clips, but the end result is still that you're effectively a god.
Which kinda illustrates the point.

Which would definitely make more sense for why switched.
