Downside: the perfecti/soulless under this fictional faith slowly become hedonistic sociopaths in most cases. The karmatic engine of measured human evil that is the soul makes you feel guilt and empathy as a way of trying to guide you towards the path away from hell. Once it's gone...only the lifetime of discipline you worked on will keep you on the straight and narrow.

I'm not sure what the in-universe appeal would be. I'm sure you could get some con-artists and the like to say they believe in it while having orgies and such, but it would need a hell of a sales pitch to a non-believer, given that pleasure seems to be both encouraged and condemned at the same time.
