  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Questionable Questing

Therefor, I propose the term 'tamgirl', taking Tam from Tammy, which is itself derived from Tamara. Meaning is intended as a less perjorative form of 'tomgirl' or 'sissy', all the way to the level of what's labelled as 'traps' in hentai and such. But hopefully without so much connection to slurs against transsexuals?

I'd never heard of that word before. Anyway, the tom part comes from tomboy, not the male name Tom.

Yeah, I know.
But I find it likely that the 'tom' in tomboy comes from the name Tom.
Either that or some arcanely weird etymology.

I also had never heard of this. Looked it up on Wikipedia hoping for a date of origin, found this gem of a definition:

Noun
tomgirl ‎(plural tomgirls)

1. A boy who behaves in a typically girlish manner.
2 A tomboy, a girl who behaves in a typically boyish manner.

Well that the clears that right up, doesn't it?

PS
"Synonyms
(girlish boy): janegirl"

Well, I'd rather use a slightly reskinned version of an actual term, rather than a real term itself, since I'm associating it partly with anime-esque 'traps'.

Oh, I definitely agree you'd want a new word. I just thought the existing word would be of interest. (I was approaching this like the academic I used to be rather than as a social engineer.)

Anyway, I was mostly tickled by the definition of "tomgirl."
