Questionable Questing

I like Polyamory in fanfics because the monogamy gets boring most of the time. You also know that there will basically be nothing else happening between the other characters in the story, so there's not much suspense or anticipation on the relationship department lol. The constant drama is also often pretty annoying.

On the other hand, I have written a lot of monogamy back in the olden days when I wasn't on QQ and writing smut lmao.

I can see where you're coming from, but I can't bring myself to agree with that. You can get a write a great character driven story with monogamous pairings. Probably even better than one where there are half a dozen girls to juggle. You only have to focus on developing two characters instead of a handful.

Getting mileage out of any type of pairing depends on the writer's abilities. A good writer can probably do justice while writing harems, but so far I've not seen any harem story that surpasses the best monogamous romances. Also, my preference for monogamy is based on the beliefs I grew up with, so I'm probably inherently biased in this regard lol.

I used to be way more monogamous when I was younger, because I was in a monogamous relationship. When I got older, I became more open minded. Especially since I've seen poly relationships work out. It really depends though. Like if you want a poly relationship to work out, the best case scenario is having everyone being in love with each other.

Not just 1 dude having a 'harem' of 12 girls or some such bullshit. That kinda shit would never realistically work out. The whole harem collection thing is kinda silly in general. It's exhausting enough just having 6-10 friends that you care about, not to mention actual girlfriends/boyfriends lmao.

In my first story, there were a few monogamous pairings. But it always felt kinda limited. Because sometimes you have a character that really loves another character, but monogamy keeps them apart. Not sexuality. Not even social constructs. But just that one singular rule that really doesn't matter so much.

In my second story(Like 2015), I wrote about a guy with a harem of 6 girls, but all the women were pretty heteroflexible or bisexual, some were more interested in the other girls than the MC. Overall though, it worked well because they all loved each other and formed a tight-knit group. Not allowing anyone else to enter lol.
