  • An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Questionable Questing

on that note, I feel like I can't really read fanfics with "Japanese" settings anymore like I used to, I mean, like works written in Japanese, so like even Konosuba, when the fanfics are written in English, because the English writers keep inserting these Americanisms? Englishism?

it takes me away from the setting and makes me realize this isn't the original work, it's just a fan work written by some thirty-something year old in Maine or something

You know, even if it's written by someone who seems to be experienced, but when they write, it's got this feeling of "look at me, I get this foreign language reference, I'm part of the in-crowd"

You know, instead of actually telling the story from an "in world" perspective, from the writer that is, it feels like a brat looking at the writer's work and then smudging around on it and trying to get the same kind of approval

but that's not it, I guess it's just the feeling of it instead of actually describing the act

I mean, it could be small stuff like having some character call another "blah-chan-sama" instead of just using "-chama", it could be them speaking English idioms while they should be Japanese high school students, idk
