I guess I wanted some kind of setting where death is possible for anyone, but not too spread out like, for example, Game of Thrones... not necessarily a death game or death arena or tournament, but something that has a flavor of struggle, revenge, and just outright cheating when everyone expects fairness

I wouldn't really touch Berserk because it could be wanked a lot and it's basically like wading into Warhammer Fantasy Battle, right? But I do like the setting, I guess it's a matter of respecting the source material.

Oh, you know what would be interesting? If after getting all those six macguffins, she goes over to Full-Metal Alchemist and can't open the Any Door because, you know, so then she has to figure an alternative way to open the door

So it'd just be her Any Door malfunctioning, and she's like, well, I might as well figure out what the fuck went wrong and maybe learn some alchemy along the way

or maybe she wants to learn some alchemy and then realizes that the door isn't working and panics

hmm... I'm not against a JRPG-like setting, I just don't know most of them well enough to use them

but actually, there's no fun in just "going along with the flow" of a setting--you know, if you're in Ranma 1/2, getting to know the "crew" and attending the different events and antics--that's... boring?

I think I'd rather get into an ideological struggle, like how in Pokemon, each Team is the extreme of an ideal... hm, I think that's something that elevated F/Z above F/A and F/SN, ya know, but it's kinda buried and not really the main theme/conflict, just a side conflict between Silly Hair King, Golden Shiny, and Iskander

... maybe I should have her kill a lot of people while getting the Silver Crystal, Pink Seiryu Devil Fruit, Complete Hogyoku, Shikon no Tama, and Red Stone of Aja in Stone Mask. And then afterwards, she arrives in like Vinland Saga and has an internal existential crisis over Pacifism vs Violence

this fits the overall theme of the story, yeah, but maybe just an overarching struggle, not really fit to drive episodic story

Pokemon, being inherently battle driven, seems to have some of these themes, but interlaces it well with smaller conflicts, such as choosing Pokemon because you like them and bond with them or choosing Pokemon for their best inherent potential; there's also environmental stuff, and ethics, and whatever
