Never read Brandon Sanderson, but I have been trying to get into Dune lately. I read a little bit a long time ago, but I was too young to understand a lot of it and I want to see how different it is for me now.
I read the update and its amazing. Arrianna is the perfect combination of sexy and confident, and yet painfully naive and arrogant. Robert imaging himself fuck his daughters was hot, but I also loved his insecurity regarding Lyanna and her love for her son. And of course the duel was amazing. Arthur is such an interesting character that I think gets shafted way too hard.
For Arthur he either gets turned into a monster, blindly falling Rhaegar to hell, or become a saint following the martyr Rhaegar. You balanced his guilt and pride very well.
Read Stormlight Archive for a unique fantasy world and story. Dune I tried one page of its prose. Dry as shit. Not fun. Jackal gets all credit for the Arrianna idea and how did you like Wylla and Lyanna's explanation to Robert?
What did you think of the different Invested and how they fight like Jamie and Barristan?
Yeah, that was my same problem with Dune too. Although I've heard so many good things from close friends, I feel like I should give it one more shot, you know?
I also really liked the idea with Robert, that you can loved multiple people and it being the same and yet different from each other, really mirrors real life when your spouse dies or you get a divorce and remarry. that love you had never fully goes away, but it doesn't invalidate your new love either.
I wanted to confront the complication of Lyanna wanting to be the mommy wife of Hurik and how that would work and how it fits in with her plan to give Robert a harem of daughters. She's not cucking her husband. She loves him. That's the key point. She fucks who she loves
But in all seriousness its cool seeing magic slowly escalating to be more bullshit over time, helps to keep the threats actually threatening when the main character's are so over powered.
I really liked the banter and some of the political and emotional intrigue going on in the background, plus Lyanna's thoughts on Cersei and Jamie was really fun.
I've been trying to push drama with Cersie. She gets sympathy. She clearly loves Stannis and her kids and is a friend to Lyanna, but she is such a bitch and treats Jamie like crap
