Questionable Questing

That villager over there? Yes.
That mysterious person that gives you hidden quests in the tavern? Yes.
Not the Duke's daughter, nor the Duke's wife, but the Duke himself? Yes.
That rock on the ground? Yes.

Romance anything.

imagine that

you know, I used to think that writing for that kind of thing would be difficult, but then I actually did professional writing, and I found that this type of macro-level, massive numbers of characters thing is easy, there's actually a trick to it

What's the trick?

You assign a zodiac sign (or whatever other brain dead dating/love character test thing) to the character, and make one of the emblematic characteristics of that zodiac sign the defining trait of that character, and then you add a "but..." and a "therefore...", then flesh out a basic history

now you have a living world with no flat characters; formulaic, but it works

and for massive open worlds, you have to have a formula, rather than painstakingly think of each character from scratch anyway

so now you can go fuck that rock on the ground that's a virgo but has come to terms with its own imperfections, and watched its dad and mom boulder killed in a dark alley as a kid

Pffft, hahahaha. Okay, that's pretty cool in a way. Although I kinda worry that it's too RNG for the characters, or is it a bit limited so some stuff would make sense?

It works for supporting or secondary characters best because you main characters usually require too much plot to be woven to be summarized so easily

and while it is limited in the scope of possibilities, it covers most common and imaginable chaeacter traits, you know, horoscope shit

but there's something to be said about the elegance in simplicity

Really? Then why need a formula and all that? Movie is pretty straight forward in terms of planning characterizations, I think.
