My stuff for a bit. So, town is falling under sway of Cult and MC finds out he's a Dark Soul, thinking he awoke as one rather than being one his whole life. I'm having other Dark Souls also have a inner demon, a persona that represents their subconscious Id. So, how does the Cult takeover the town and how fast paced should the plot be?

Well in real life, what cults do is they first makes friends with a person of authority. A mayor, a local politicians or business leader, maybe a police chief. The cult down in Waco, actually regularly spoke with the local police and was friends with a couple of them. It was one of the big criticisms against the ATF that they didn't try to talk with them first.

Ancient families with prestigious powerful Soul users who served in the military or other prestigious positions and so taking over school and police system and local restaurants

Could hint at the take over happening, by having local small restaurants and businesses complaining about out of towner's and rich developers buying up all the land in the town.

Could also be a plot point that the unrest is causing the mayor, a puppet of the cult, to start losing support and start thinking about turning away to keep his position.

I like. Signs of change through a economic development plan. A key part of tension is the demon side of the MC is scheming to corrupt and conquer but the MC's powers are his Dark Soul and he physically can't get rid of it. So he tries to hold it back while using it but if he doesn't let him out occasionally, the loss of control is extreme
