To use katara as an example, her big sin is ambition. No matter how much she dresses it up with big ideas, she wants things. No, these are going to be some very smart girls. they'l love Zuko and they'll never betray him or each other, but they'll definitly be competing for power and control in the court. It'll get full game of thrones sometimes except without any betrayal and a whole lot more incest.

Anng and Toph will have a very cute and wholesome relationship in the background. It'll be a nice change of pace and something to contrast with Zuko's current insanity.

What I'm thinking is Zuko's wives will wear some scandelous outfit that elder's will swear at, but their grandchilren will see it and like it and start dressing up that way, and that's how the corruption starts. The fire Lord can do whatever he wants and the people will follow, has been the fire nation attutide for over a hundred years now. That hasn't changed just because Aang beat the old one.

The Fire Lord as a social insinuation is fucked. That can be fun to explore. What limits on the Fire Lord's power there are and how the system is designed around this tyrant.

Like you said earlier, fascism and imperialism don't just disapper because you beat them. The fire nation culture hasn't changed yet just because they were beaten.

Anway on to bending, one of Zuko's big goals in life is use fire bending to heal. I can't remeber his name but their was a fire nation solider who turned a traitor and taught Aang for a little while, because he believed that fire could only hurt people and so the fire nation was evil. Zuko wants to prove him wrong.

So Zuko discoveres that sometimes fire is used to deaden nerves and reduse pain for some symptoms and through understanding that slowly figures out the concept of using fire bending to burn away warts or cancer, and slowly starts to evolve firebending into basically heat bending and using that to effect and manipulate someones body. But that's a process that'll take years in the story and won't be the focus at first.

How do you burn away cancer.

Same way a few real life cancer treatments go. Certain types of skin cancers can be identified with special medications and devices and then they can get lasered off or frozen off before they spread.
