A funny idea I liked that I got from a horror game, is that US government tried to brainwash this town with radio waves and built a radio tower to specifically do that. And then the project gets canceled maybe funding issues, maybe some secret scandal, and the brainwashing radio tower sit unused for a long time, until some local radio stations move into town and end up using it as a booster for their signal.

Maybe a church or a cult that's big on big families and respecting the head of the house has a feud with a porn website that specializes in incest audiobooks and erotica stories, and the two unknowingly induct the whole two into those ideal's with the abandoned radio tower.
