About what I expected -- cycles of violence are a pretty common trope with Miyazaki and GRRM. The specifics, of course, hit right in the feels, but godhood as a method of revenge fits pretty neatly with my existing theories.

Ah, yes. It's also sadly topical, which has given it even more focus than it otherwise would've gotten from presenting a totally different side of her. In a different world, maybe we'd get more discourse about how sad it is to find a certain purple lady in the deepest, darkest hole in the game.

"Here I abandon my love." From early Marika, you see a girl who wants justice for her people, and for the deserving to live happily under a golden tree - real flower child shit. But she lost that when she ascended, and all that remained was the harshness, the Order. That's what makes Miquella's story a tragedy - he's following in his mother's footsteps.

Yeah, the parallels are pretty blunt, but not the point, which is that we have interactions with somebody abandoned by Miquella that he absolutely should not have. It's more than just an intellectual knowledge of the things thrown away in Marika's case.

Messmer was left in the Shadowlands, but for a completely different reason, and in a much better state, and in a much better place than where we find purple lady. And I guess speaking of Messmer and related item descriptions, we could probably have an argument that Marika lost all kindness after the ascension.
