Questionable Questing

I love the line, Areys burned and Rhaegar inhaled the smoke. Which kind of sums up the prince pretty well. He might not have been burning people alive, but he had the same madness as his father. I think the grief could've been worse, but then again it has been over a decade at this point since its happened.

Its tricky as we didn't want to write Rhaegar as innocent through the eyes of Rhaella. Her deluded that he was noble and betrayed by some random harlot who stole his heart. Rhaella mourns the son she knew and the man who left her control and fucking hates Aerys for his character. She is angry over what she sees as her troubled broken boy who needed help from her dying before she could fix him.

But yeah with Rhaegar not matter how you look at it he was a pretty big dummy. lol. I'm pretty sure George deliberately set him up like those fairy tale princes who run away with their true love and how destructive and stupid that would be in real life, rather than driven to madness by a vague prophecy.

But I think your interpretation works just as well, especially since you see the aftermath and how people rationalize his decisions or try to understand him. I think that was the most interesting part of his character in the books anyway.

I once thought of having him come back for Rhaella as a death knight of some kind but slowly the idea faded. He's dead and as a figure of history who shaped the modern Westros there is lots of varying thoughts on him and Rhaella's has one of the most unique as seeing him as a victim of his father's influence. It is very domestic abuse cycle themed

I think his death works as a good cut off point between post and pre magical Westros for the purpose of the story, but I will admit he could be an interesting character to write and see how he interacts with people. But with his madness I always personally thought it was the Children of the Forest and the Three Eyed Crow fucking with him that really set him off.

Not helped by the stupidly destructive home life, and the Messiah complex he probably developed as a consequence of being expect to not just stop his father and then fix the damage he created, but also reverse the decline of the Targaryens, fix his broken family, live up to the expectations of his friends who are all yes man, and of course deal with visions of the apocalypse you can't talk about with anyone.

The madness bit is the hard one. It doesn't read as real mental illness. Its that lovecraft brand of crazy and that is hard to define. Him being dead means I can have Rhaella and Dayne and others give splitners of him for Hurik to know about and Lyanna to learn of. Where as if he comes back? I have to craft a whole being and that is complicated with his actions. What you think of Hurik and Wylla?
Andy333
Andy333
The conversation Hurik has with Rhaella was really cute. I liked how unsure he was, a far cry from his usual self, and how almost self conscience he was at admitting he didn't know what he should feel about them. Also liked that Rhaella called his bullshit at living a quiet life and Visery's teasing him a little at the end.

A lot of that was Jackal's work. What you think of this quest's version of Viserys with what you have seen with his prior interludes?
Andy333
Andy333
Surprisingly chill, I think is the best description. Doesn't really have a want or need for power, purely except to protect his family which is his main priority and focus in life. Although considering who his father and brother are that makes a surprising amount of sense. I wouldn't be shocked if a part of them actually really resents his brother for abandoning them.

Still is kind of funny to me he's struck up a friendship with Hurrik, but then again they are family.

One of the easiest ways to tell if the author is female or not, is if they name a member of the main cast after a food, accessory, or if they use a overly masculine or kind of fruity name for the main guy like Damian or Jace.

Fruity name like Vegeta or Broly?:V
It makes a point I want to talk about with Alex. A cool dangerous dark mind controller like Alex if Lisa goes for him, she can't just get the good without some of the questionable consent bad

There's no way for Lisa to fall for Alex and somehow change him for the better. He's a Master power using overlord in the making and the dubcon of his personality won't just affect the sex. It will alter her life
Andy333
Andy333
That's the idea. She's walking into a trap and she doesn't even know it. The fun though is the impact she also has on him. How she makes him angrier and more ambitious, trying to use him for her own ends and drawing Alex into the criminal underworld while slowly being conquered herself.

I like the idea her manipulating of him only worsens his fall and brings her down with it. How fucked up will her mind and body be by him?
Andy333
Andy333
I'm still debating how far it should go, but at the very least I'm really liking the idea of Lisa naturally kneeling anytime she's in his presence. Kind of like a nervous tick where she likes being pat on the head like a dog or something.
