Questionable Questing

Imagine Satan has a party of people in Hell he likes and others he doesn't that he torments.

Brownies just came out of the oven and smells amazing. I hate that I have to wait for them to cool off. But what misadventures are the hidden sexy nun and Lucifer going? Is it going to be a monster of the week style one, where the nun slowly gets involved in the magical underworld, working with shady organizations and a depressed semi retired Lucifer in hunting escaped monsters or demons?
Bob is bob
Bob is bob
Yep. Satan trying to drag her and everyone around her down to Hell to spite God and for some company.
Andy333
Andy333
Or are we going for a more traditional story structure, of Lucifer coming to earth to deal with a specific problem or plot all the while the innocent nun slowly somehow gets involved and helps defeat the rogue angel or demon in the end while falling in love with Lucifer?

Lucifer is on vacation and is looking for things to do. Trick is figuring out on the scale of sympathetic vs monster Satan is and what is he. The giver of Free Will, God of the Apple. Father of mankind's sins? The Acuser who pubishes? A fallen angel thinking he's superior to humanity?

Could go for the more traditional one. The version in paradise lost was the first real sympathetic one, with Lucifer seeing god's power as slavery and that by the very act of defying him they are proving that they have free will and he is not all knowing. But by the same token Lucifer's is perfectly willing to do some incredibly fucked up things and doesn't care how kind and understanding god really is.
Andy333
Andy333
As long as he can prove he's his own person and not slaves to his father. He'll hurt or screw over even his closest family. Which you know speaking of paradise lost, what's really ironic is that the author didn't understand why people thought his version of Satan was sympathetic funny enough. In his mind being a slave to God was a good thing and even asking that question is why Satan was so bad.
Andy333
Andy333
He was so deep in his fanaticism, he inadvertently made Lucifer a tragic villain and started the trend of sympathetic versions of that character.

There's a bit in Paradise Lost where Lucifer says he could not love God for he felt his love unworthy. Lucifer was close to God but not quite in power and it made him feel a envy for God but also that he was unable to be good enough for God.

Could have it that he loves humanity because he's been stuck with them for centuries and is having a massive bender hellraiser orgy down there
Andy333
Andy333
Could have him a little envious and proud of humans, seeing how much they can change and grow, how nations, religions, and thoughts can be forgotten about just as fast as they are created. Kind of contrast this with how he feels stuck in a rut doing the same exact thing, playing the same exact role he's been doing for all of eternity. Him and the rest of his family mindlessly unchanging and uncaring.

What if we don't do the Devil but instead a Devil to focus on a bimbo demon hell like in that Hellraiser idea of yours? Trouble of actual Satan is you get to deal with Rapists and warlords and other RL horrors in hell. Notice how Hazbin avoids all that
Andy333
Andy333
That's the problem with any description of hell, to make them remotely sympathetic you have to kind of decide what you'll do with the really evil people. Either ignore them, kill them off, or quarantine them are you best options.

And what Lucifer's role is. Here have the Lucifer be the one who wanted to turn Eden into a playhouse for him and was banished

Be back in a second, having brownies.

Brownies were good. They were a caramel turtle. But Lucifer's role I think really depends on his character and mental state I think. Is he depressed and semi-retired like on the show? Is he active and scheming? Is he sealed or weakened? Is he full power? A lot of choices will impact how he rules and how active he is in trying to shape hell in his image,
Bob is bob

Active and scheming. Sealed so he can wander the world seeking some fun and let someone else rule his Hell eden
Andy333
Andy333
I sleep now, but tomorrow we can start figuring out the basic world building for hell and build Lucifer's role from that. But from what it sounds like, he's battle up against an informal coupe made of people claiming to represent him as he searches for a way to unseal his powers. Kind of like how the emperor of Japan was technically in charge but the shogun was the real power, you know?
Andy333
Andy333
But my question is, who do you think your shogun should be? Because he'll make a great early game villain to set up the Nun and Lucifer against as they slowly unfurl his schemes and deal with his minions slowly moving up until a final showdown with him. That's how all great monster of the week shows are structured. Go up the food chain of minions until you reach the final hidden boss and foil his plot.
