Our story starts with Tristan Abscral. A boy who's father was killed because of horrible divine experiments to give him multiple God contracts driving him mad. Tristan is Contracted to Fortuna, a red dressed Goddess of Long Odds who is constantly around him but unseen by everyone else.

Tristan in book one grows to like having companions after a orphaned lifetime of criminal survival as a thief. It's interesting. As he gets closer to people we see he's naturally longing for kindness and can try to save others. He also if asked by a friend will kill virtually anyone he considers a threat through devious schemes

And he's only one of our protags.

But on the surface and before the character development, he's distrustful and greedy. Nice, thief with a heart of gold is a classic trope for a reason. How does Contessa, excuse me Fortuna lol, work? Is it like a gut feeling he gets sometimes? Weird dreams and precognition? Or is it a voice directly talking and giving vague hints or goals?

He can pull on fate to give good luck at the price of bad luck backlash. The luck hurts worse if his good luck harms someone directly

Then there is Angharad. She who in spying on a guy and pretending to be into him is seduced by his milf mom noted to be a young mom and guilty about fucking her target's mom sets up a match with a girl who likes him. Her getting into horny misadventures is a repeated theme between book one and two
