I always loved the concept of how gods and monsters have their personalities and roles change over time based on how people precise them and how significant they are culturally. And how they try to work around this or fight back against humanity's ultimate rise. It lets you do the jerk ass controlling gods like in Percy Jackson, while still retaining some sympathy and pathos to the whole thing.

Zeus publicly humiliating and talking about killing Percy, not because he was the one who stole in master bolt but because he showed him up and revealed how divided his rule really is the worst introduction you could do for that series. Since now even with how crazy Luke got, I was still rooting for him to win even after the gods swore to actually take care of their kids.

Focus on the Old Gods being hyper horny and wild. You have the New gods tied to corporations, media empires, all divinity is money.
Than the posidion of the setting rolls in with a party boat ignoring the shipping laws and lifts their finger to summon a hideously large sea serpent when port authorities tell him to go away

But having Zeus quietly admit how powerless he feels and how terrified he is of slowly losing his mind and becoming a different person, talking about how he wasn't a womanizing rapist in the beginning but since that's how people view him that's what he's become. It adds that tragedy and powerlessness you need for the gods to truly feel human. Dementia really is one of the most terrifying diseases.

Old Gods are regulated and suppressed. Officially, the Old Gods like Zeus and Ares types they aren't in power. The new Gods tied to social economic forces like the military industrial complex and a God of global order are in charge.

However, the archetypes of the Old Gods persist and their stories are drawn on for creative inspiration. Like in the modern day, people keep revitalizing the primal legends of the Iliad and other things
