Which neatly leads to Babel. The first Keylines and the source of it all. Which its not the strongest line, but it's the oldest one and is the source of basically the source code of the engine so to speak.

With each word getting tied to a concept or idea like fire, water, etcetera, and by writing these words you can summon those aspects for various effects.

Every major city has multiple hot spots, centered around major historical landmarks or areas of importance. With even some cities through the worship of its people developing their own personalities and spirits to help protect and guide those hot spots.

Interesting. Can you write the runes like glowing symbols in the air or need a material to put them on? Body runes?

Glowing and body runes work, but they're a lot weaker because they are usually temporary. Although put an asterisk next to that because there are some permanent body runes that are incredibly powerful if very rare since directly connecting concepts to your body is dangerous. But usually you need a building or something in the ground to get longer lasting effects,

So swords and guns get runes?

Definitely, although the weapon has to be properly consecrated and you can't just slap it on any rune to any old weapon without causing blow back or side effects. But I sleep. I'm tired. Talk more later.
