• The regular administrative staff are taking a vacation, and in the meantime, Biigoh is taking over. See here for more information.
  • A notice about Rule 3 regarding sites hosting pirated/unauthorized content has been made. Please see here for details.
  • Staff is working to deal with the problem of synonymous tags. See here for more information and to suggest tag mergers.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

I can make informal categories of tags, but we don't have the functionality to make a technical distinction. Adding functionality isn't something I can do, but tag categorisation is on the admin list (though I'd think a lesser priority than some other things). With regard to [Character] tags...

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

*moves* I'd consider that more the default, and generally I don't think 'no X' tags are gonna be featured too prominently, even though I'll note them in the longer list. Agree, but, at a quick glance, there's a lot of specific cyoa tags, but there's also a bunch of generic stuff I can combine...

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

Yeah, those are definitely more typical examples. At least on QQ, and more generally in fanfiction, I think ‘self-insert’ and ‘crossover’/‘multicross’ are popular and broad enough categories that they also count, but I’m less sure about ‘oc insert’ and ‘character insert’. Somewhat inclined to...

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

It's a specific (set of) cyoa people might want to search for/exclude, but also I haven't looked at 'cyoa' and all it's variants yet (that one was caught because I searched for 'worm'). *adds to lead list*

    Threadmarks: Longer Tag List

Updated the Suggested Tags threads (1, 2) with a selection from the first batch. For usability, I didn't include every tag I've merged/Synonymised, just some highlights. I'm gonna keep a longer list in this threadmark, and link to it there. What is a 'genre' and what is an 'element' is...

...to be doing anything for you because you're not searching a Synonymised tag? I'll have to ask whether it's possible to duplicate that button in advanced search. Edit: Not sure why those spoilers are broken, but can't really troubleshoot right now, so I'll sort it later. And it’s fixed? *stares*

I don't even know what button you're referring to here; it doesn’t seem to be in advanced search or account preferences. Where are you seeing this button?

Synonyms done, and that was quicker than merging (formatted into JSON, and Aleth imported for me). Next is the formatting of the Suggested Tags threads. Will maybe write up a draft tonight, and then look it over again tomorrow before posting.

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

I mean, technically you can already ‘tag’ stories in such a way, using purely the bookmark functionality on QQ, there's just not a way of sharing or comparing that with other users (aside from making a thread to post about it). Just make the OP of a thread a QQ bookmark, and include a score in...

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

'selfinsert' was already merged into 'self-insert', to be clear. It was part of the list. There used to be 461 threads with 'self-insert' tagged. 'self insert' was actually the more popular variation, with 3,013 threads tagged. Now 'self-insert' has 3,670 threads tagged, and I'll add another...

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

I don’t even know what SQL is, so yeah, rawdogging the UI. It’s probable there’s easier ways, but I can’t do them, and it wasn’t getting done, so this is what I’m doing.
  13. LurkingInTheDeceit

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

Update: merging 300+ tags into 55 is actually tedious as hell, especially when you occasionally stumble across others that should be merged in the same group (or are similar enough to form a whole new group). That took me basically three straight hours (10:34 - 01:23); I won't be doing it all at...

Added five more to the ‘oc insert’ merge (one of which was literally ‘oc-insert’) which I stumbled across while searching ‘oc’ for the next batch. Starting.

That’s the 48 hours up. Will start merging/Synonymising the first batch in an hour or two, and I should have the second batch ready for feedback tomorrow.

Anonymous star based rating/score for fics

Sounds a bit like Royal Road. Think I’ve heard of rating wars going on there as well, and authors basically have the attitude that ‘anything less than 5 stars is active sabotage’ when asking for reviews, so I’m not sure how useful a metric it actually is.

You typed ‘lmao’ in an otherwise ordinary tag, which must be preserved for all future generations to witness. :V

    (Partially) fixing the tag system

Priority at the moment is making a ‘hard merge’ option, so I can choose to have misspelling/mistakes that I merge automatically merge into the same tag again when recreated. That will save me a lot of work. Parent/child functionality is on the list, though.

*edits* That's why all those Synonyms for 'harem' are there, instead of being merged. *looks over list* I suppose 'this is a no harem zone' and 'au as fuck' would also be in that category? Can move those over to the Synonym list, and any other ones you think I missed. *edits* If it doesn't...

Problem with Liking posts: I don’t want to be redirected to a separate “Are you sure?” page

That sometimes happens to me when I have connection issues. Think it's just a bug that happens when your internet is slow. Not sure whether @alethiophile or @ultima333 can do anything about that. Edit: Also happens, as SnarkLord says, when you leave a page open too long.
