    Couldn't he use his nanites in large enough quantities to write out words? Assuming he didn't want to go the machine spirit route

    I like the plan to just make a mech survive more than it should, it'll, potentially, lead to pain down the line but also could work to make the crew less likely to try to destroy the SI.
