Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Cliff deleted it because he wasn't happy with the teleporting mechanic... I think.

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Well, thanks for the story anyway, cliff. It was a good one. I honestly understand that the idea block is a difficult one to break, but well, it's a god damn shame, that's for sure. I would have suggested either a big time skip ( to after the war, for example ), or even switching...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Ouch, I just read Blade4 info on the enemy ( you should have spoiled that, but well ). That was a tough thing to write, IMHO, I did not dislike the deleted chapter, but I can see how that could be difficult to continue the plot, without a veritable ass pull from the Celestial Forge...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

The abductor could also read her mind, so he/she/it knows something about her powers... that's kinda scary. Blank was literally a godsend.
  5. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Huh, she got noticed, and "someone" got pissed off about her tech advances. Poor girl, when she could rest for awhile and then this happens. Being a protagonist is the worst, that's for sure.
  6. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

IIRC she pissed off a lot of bureaucrats, and had to choose either to sign the peace or get kicked out of her seat. Or that was her predecessor, I forgot...
  7. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

No need, but she could have told them that she got the premonition that the Vilani were going to attack at the same time than the super brains and the perfect memory. That could make that people start really getting worried...
  8. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

And knowing the end of the 9th and latest interstellar war, they were right to think so.

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

FTL comms always imply FTL sensors. You can leave probes that sent info to another system ... that means you have current info on the system the probes are. That said, one of the Battletech ansibles is ridiculously loud, IIRC, that one is not suitable for that, unless you only use them once.
  10. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Hell, IIRC in canon they didn't do it till they had been loosing wars to the Confederation for a century and a half, at least.
  11. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

They didn't survived too much even without Sophia's OOC, so she is not wrong about her fear of the Earth Confederation, at all. She is completely right in being a massive danger for their empire. Is just that this time is going to hurt even more ...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

In their defense, exaggeratedly insular and conservative to the point of being almost stagnant societies can be pretty stable, as the ancient Egyptians and the Chinese the Vilani are almost based can demonstrate.
  13. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

She needed the recognition, not the money, that is just a (nice) bonus. She can patent whatever she wants, anyway... can you imagine how much money she would get if she patented the ansible instead of researching through government channels? She wants to be alive and not enslaved before she...
  14. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

I wonder what they will think if they ever learn about how much she "failed" that bio-project. Besides a lot of brown pants, of course...
  15. Faralis

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Huh, IIRC the Terrans lost the planet she is in the next war. I wonder what having FTL comms would do for that war? Because I can't see enough time for more inventions in the 3 years she has. Or maybe she surprises me again, she is good at that. EDIT: I suppose the ansible would be a massive...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

Yeah, approaching the company her mother works for is logical, starting the research in the planet nearest the Vilani absolutely not...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

I was thinking about the main reason they put her in that patrol boat, and IIRC she told them that she wanted to be "normal" but she thought she couldn't. Maybe they put her in that "normal" job so she could taste it at least for awhile? Specially because she could be near her family. It's a...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

I think there was a special Jump ship in Battletech with 2 FTL engines so they could do hit and run missions ... or I am mixing it with other game? I hate my memory... EDIT: Ok, Blade4 I probably confused it with other setting...

Forging Ahead (GURPS Interstellar Wars/Celestial Forge)

... you just defined 99% of the fiction which has the protagonist winning against someone or something... I suppose everything is rational fiction, then.
