• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

I clicked a link in someone's sig to look at another of their threads, and it redirected me to something like 'questionablequesting.com' without 'forum' in front of it, and it asked for a login. Except it claimed my password was wrong, and ten minutes of attempted fixes later the site still wouldn't accept my password, then said I couldn't login if I didn't accept cookies, then locked me out for failed login attempts. And trying to figure out IRC made me want to punch my monitor.

Making a new account through gmail seemed like the only way to get help. My original account, @Quantumshard, uses outlook for e-mail and I've never had a problem with it before now, but at some point it got filtered?

I'll PM an admin later once this account allows it if no mods catch and fix this soon.

Are you able to log in on https://forum.questionablequesting.com/ with the Original Account?

Nope. First message is always 'Incorrect password' Trying again after a refresh and deleting cookies gives me an error or asking for enabling cookies. After that it's 'incorrect password' again.
I have exceptions to always accept cookies for both the http://forum.que- and http://que- addresses.
I'm using firefox if that matters.
Firefox shouldn't have any effect. The fact that you are able to create an account and log in with that, indicates that your browser is working properly.

Are you able to clear cache and try and log in with your original account the way you normally would have before?

No effect, whether I use 'forget about this site' command to clear the cache and anything else related to the site, or go through the list of cookies to clear out any QQ entries specifically. Or both. I also re-wrote exceptions to always allow cookies from both possible variants of the web address into my security options after the previous actions removed them. Tried again. Nothing. Whatever I do, I only get one of two responses. Incorrect password, or this site requires cookies to use. If there's a way to fix this on my end, I'm not seeing it.

I don't get it. I've never had a problem like this with this site, and playing with cookies and cache usually solves login issues.

What happens when you use a different browser? like Edge on windows or Safari on Apple?

I suspect what happened is that he sent a password reset email, but it got filtered, and thus it wants the password from the reset email (once you've sent a password reset email it AIUI won't accept the old password any more).

Overriding his old account's email with the new account's email address should fix it if so (though he'll have to request another password reset). You might want to make sure it's actually him first, though.

Ah.... yeah... that'd do it. -_-

E-mail wouldn't really work. But I do have a possible fix.

Do you know if there are plans to "merge" the two domains? Like how it was before the upgrade, where "questionablequesting.com" would redirect you to "forum.questionablequesting.com".
This response was to a related thread just a week ago (but past history suggests timing may remain SoonTM approximately as long as fusion does):
This is a known problem, and I mean to fix it next time I have the time to mess with that layer of the site.
