  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

So I've been getting...complaints. Complaints about my posts being unreadable. It all appears to be down to a feature only I seem to use: articles.

Part of the fun of writing on QQ is using various features to paint the medium, and articles get put to use because they're very much distinct from quotes (and quotes have other problems I mention below). So hearing that they just kind of...don't work frustrates me, because I had an artistic intent in doing so and it's really not my fault that they cause issues.

Don't get me wrong - I'll use other methods if I have to, for the sake of my readers. But I figure that I should report the bug so something might be done about it rather than just having to work around an issue that shouldn't exist in the first place.

I've quoted the relevant parts of my thread below to explain the exact problems, in the words of the users experiencing them:

Dear god, again...I love this story, but I kinda wish you'd stop using articles. I literally can't read anything in them because it's all white text on an eye-searing white background.

FYI, the first article in the update (The First Slave) is larger than the window on my computer, so the right side of the text gets cut off. It's unreadable as is for me.

The former issue doesn't happen on all themes. I'm currently using Dark Responsive High Contrast, and the default also works. But that doesn't change that it shouldn't be happening in the first place...and the latter is happening to me to a lesser extent. It seems like articles are just broken in general. Still, that's a temporary solution.

I would use quotes, but I don't think they look as good for this purpose, they force you to click to read more, and - this is a big one - they don't properly get included in the word count (see Idol Talk). I can fix the layout issue by making the spoiler caption shorter, but since captions work fine on non-articles...it seems to be straight up a bug.

Should I make some kind of bug report to the staff? I'll edit the caption right after I post this, but it'd be nice if the features on the forum, you know...worked.

Quotes and spoiler tags (like you use for those pictures) would be vastly preferable. I literally can't read this on my phone, because most of it is cut off, and there's no scroll option (which would still be a huge hassle even if it existed).

Noted.

I don't see any issues on desktop/default, but I'll investigate how it works on other modes.

It may end up being that I can't fix it, since I have limited ability to alter Xenforo internals.

*runs through Style Chooser modes*
The light-on-white colour issue seems to apply to:
* Blackend (& all variants);
* UI.X Dark (& mobile variant).
The others seem fine.

Likely related:
* Blackend (& all variants): the same light-on-white issue is visible when examining the Search bar.
Again, the others seem fine.

[On Desktop, Windows 8, with Firefox 62.0 ...if that matters.]

Doesn't seem to be a mobile issue, or at least the colouring doesn't. It seems to be an issue of light-text-on-dark-background default colouring, not adjusting to those instances where the background is white - so, off-white text on white background. Hope that helps...
