Prologue: Stone bomb

"In the vast depths of space, where the Aetherium swirls and drifts past the stars, carrying with it many light ships and star whales past planets of magnificent colors. Blues, greens, purples, yellow, and red were quite often seen merging and swirling over the planet's bodies. Smaller than those, and scattered across space are islands of all shapes and sizes. Some were as large as moons, others little larger than houses.

It is the age of exploration, where solar powered light ships bring trade and colonists across the Aetherium to every corner of the galaxy. But even a golden age has it's dangers. Some natural.. And some decidedly less so.

Where there are traders, there are also pirates. Always ready to prey on the unwary. Within the Empire, such crimes do not go unpunished. Those who would disturb the peace will face the full might of the Royal Navy. The Queen's Royal light ships have protected the Empire for centuries whether fighting pirates, or Procyon invaders. The Navy has always been victorious.

Until now.

Just as the Empire and the Procyons are on the verge of peace treaties, a new menace has appeared on the frontier. A menace that cloaks itself in mystery, and leaves no clue except destruction.

A menace that may be too powerful for anyone to defeat." - Admiral Amelia Smollet

Personal Log: Jim Hawkins, Ensign Entry #57

"I hate final exams. I wasn't this nervous when pirates where chasing us all over Flint's Treasure Planet. I shouldn't be this tense at all. I mean, it's only my entire Navy career hanging on how well my crew and I do during this graduation exercise.

So far I've done my best at the academy. I've studied hard and stayed out of trouble. Mostly. There was that one time in the mess hall, but I'm certain the superintendent didn't see me. Admiral Amelia did though, I'm sure of it. It can't be a coincidence that I got volunteered to spend the next week checking mooring lines for frays. Whenever I get into trouble she's there- it's uncanny.

Out of my entire graduating class, I was chosen as one of the lucky few who would get to captain a ship during final exercises. I've been assigned a Stinger class Torpedo Boat. A sweet little ship, fast and manoeuvrable... but still, it's a lot more than the solar surfer I am used to.

Even better, I've been lucky enough to be assigned Onyx, my best friend from the academy, as my first mate. He's a bit of a stick in the mud, I suppose. His uncle, Mr. Arrow was the same way. But there's nobody else I would want by my side aboard ship. Now if I can only keep my voice from shaking when I give my crew commands tomorrow, I should be in business.

Here's hoping I don't make any mistakes and manage to get us through the final exam."

Personal Log: Jim Hawkins, Ensign Entry #58

"In a day full of strangeness, I found the strangest thing yet. We were attacked by pirates in the middle of our training. We were pretty far out in space, but it seemed that these pirates wanted something. They were sent here for a reason. Still, they were no match for our Flotilla and half dozen battleships.

As we hauled the pirate prisoners aboard, I was surprised to hear my name called out.

It was Turnbuckle, one of John silver's old Crew. He ran up to me, breaking out of his restraints. I half expected him to attack me, and right before I was about to put him down, he placed something into my hand. It was a strange purple stone, barely larger than a musket shot, but it seemed to be faintly glowing with a smoggy hue. He didn't say anything other than "Silver says Beware" in a half dazed and scared demeanour.

He then turned and offered himself back to the crew for restraint. He was a face and form I hadn't seen since Treasure Planet five years ago.

On second thought, I almost expected him to ask to be set free because we knew each other, but it didn't play out like that. Before I could question him further, he was herded off to the prison ship docked nearby.

Was this pirate raid for the sole purpose of Silver giving me this ominous warning?

By the time I got back to my quarters to examine the rock, my mind was filled with a thousand thoughts on this old pirate I hadn't seen in so many years. I had heard rumors of him from time to time, about his ship being seen on smuggling runs, or even that he had turned privateer and that he was preying on Procyon ships in the name of Her Majesty and the Empire.

I was still deep in thought when little Morphy, the pet Silver had given me all those years ago jumped up on the desk and began to chirp and spin.

To my amazement, he shifted into a miniature version of Silver himself, sword and all, erratically chirping "Beware" when I placed the stone down next to it as if it knew something that I was not privy to.

Despite Morphy's tricks, I'm no closer to an answer.

Could Silver have been trying to warn me about these strange rocks that had been being hauled in by the Navy in the far corners of the galaxy? It wasn't the first time I'd seen one of these. Rumor has it that these were discovered from strange creatures that had tried to raid a transport ship, and more and more were showing up with time. I hadn't put much thought to them, as despite their ominous hue, they weren't outwardly harmful.

So why was John Silver telling me to be wary of them? More and more questions fell directly on top of older ones.

Was this some sort of pirate scheme? Could these stones be detonated remotely?

If they were piled in Royal warehouses and in the homes of the Empire's citizens and subjects, we might be facing a mass slaughter unseen in the entire galaxy for hundreds of years. But what if I was wrong? What if these were just harmless stones?

So, I'm left to try and understand this message. One word that Silver left for me.

Beware.

What could this mean?"

Personal Log: Jim Hawkins, Entry #59

"We were bombarded by pirates today on a mission to rescue a city island that had been overrun by three different pirate fleets that banded together. They thought that they could ransom it back to the Empire. They thought that they could bully us into their hands.

Not on our watch. What would the Empire be reduced to if we just gave in to pirate demands?

No.

We came and we came in hard. Cleared the pirates off the island in a matter of two days. We took over a thousand prisoners, and executed the most heinous and those who resisted.

We can't let the home front collapse.

Sure enough, like clockwork, I couldn't help but notice something was wrong. This was way too easy.

Then, after checking an empty house. I saw them just sitting there. The crates of purple stones. There were dozens of crates of these purple stones hidden in every building and placed all around the island. We didn't even know what hit us before it was too late. Whatever energy filled these stones, the pirates had learned how to weaponize it.

The island itself was blasted apart, and almost everyone died.

Fortunately, I survived, but only thanks to a fluke of luck. I don't think I'll be making any more logs, as this recorder is about to die for good.

If any of Her Majesty's officers find this recorder. John Silver was right when he said "Beware" as now, I've found myself on a strange planet with no way to contact home. I hope I can make it back one day, and see my family and friends again.

This is Commander Jim Hawkins signing off one last time."

So Jimmyboy gets marrooned to Orario or something? There's a question on whether the flying surfboards he mcgyvers can work on this universe, but I'm really much more interested in the how, what did Silver and Morph know that led to the displacement? Are the other people who collected the stones also at risk of being displaced?

Really an intriguing crossover premise.

Thank you for the review.

I don't want to give too many spoilers, but yes, they do have a chance at displacing those who don't just get blown up from their destruction when more of them are used.. This also goes for people of the Danmachi universe to Jim's universe in reverse. Some of John Silver's unlucky prisoners can attest to that. It's not a once and never again thing. It's an active mechanic that will persist throughout the story. Whether the destination can be controlled is a whole nother question entirely.
