Hello, and welcome to Echo. I've prepared a few primers for people not familiar with Final Fantasy XIV, and will likely add to them down the road, as more details become relevant.
So how much crossover is there going to be? Is it just an alt-power fic? The short answer is no.
There will be other crossover elements appearing over time, though they may not immediately be apparent at the start. I don't want to get too in detail for fear of spoilers, but rest assured that this is marked a crossover for a reason.

So for those of us not familiar with Final Fantasy XIV, what is the Echo?
It's a couple of different things (and manifests differently for different users, but we'll be sticking primarily with what the main player character in FF14 has).
It's a dash of Postcognition, as the user will occasionally get visions of the past, particularly involving important events.
It's also a dash of Precognition, as it helps the user to dodge attacks.
It allows for communication regardless of language barriers.
Finally, it gives immunity to mental domination and possession, as it allows one to resist the corruptive effects of Primals.
In short, it's a pretty strong Thinker power.
