• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Simply put, without getting a bunch of new members, this forum is doomed to rot on the vine and die, just like all the various TFF splinter-forae did. So, how are we going to advertise this forum, to attract them?

[me=Biigoh]coughs[/me]

Well... I do link this forum... or rather my quest in my sig ON Space Battles... :3

Well one method would be aproaching people whose quests or stories on SB got locked due to being judged NSFW by the mods there altough there aren't that many of them and it's unlikely to attract that many people.

Another would be creating tvtropes articles about the fics on this site while providing a link to the forum.

By all means, advertise away.

/tg/ on 4chan might be a decent place to advertise too, if you're subtle about it.

What about Fimfiction? It's got a not-inconsiderable amount of adult fanfiction, and AJT (who got banned from SB for Beating The Heat) posts his stories there, and he has something like 1600 followers.

Well... if the site is willing to set up a PbP section (trust me, you'll need a new section for it), I think we could get people here from certain OTHER PbP forums, for the simple notion that we are willing to do/have Questionable and NSFW games and have subforums set-up.

I mean, I would be happy to help out with that... because there isn't any actual Questionable/NSFW PbP game forums left out there. Not with Patternspider's death.

We certainly have no objection to it. The more the merrier, so long as they comply with the rules.

You'll still need to set up a pbp subforum section... ^_^;

And be willing to create additional subforums in said subforum when people pop up to run games and stuff...

That's fine. It only takes a few minutes to create a forum.

So a "Play By Post" subforum ala "Writing" and "NSFW", I would recommend, giving it permissions like the NSFW subforum.

Then "Archive" and "Games" child boards in the "Play By Post" subforum...

I set up PbP in it's own category, with IC and OOC subforums. NSFW PbP is still placed in the NSFW section, and guests cannot see anything there(like normal for NSFW).

The IC forums have regular permissions, instead of Archive, as it would be a pain for a GM to have to copy over all their player's posts.

The thing is... depending on how it goes... we might end up with more than just a single pbp game running at any given time... which is why their own subforums for individual games is kind of a good thing.

At least from my experiences when I pretty much ran pbp.patternspider.net.

If it needs to be filtered into separate subs that badly, well, it won't take long to do.

The way it's set up will work til we get that kind of traffic.

But for the record, yes, PbP is more than welcome here. Fiction, quests, whatever. If it's creative, we wants it.

We're not too fond of political commentary and current events, but well, if that's what our userbase wants, we'll provide the space for it.

Wouldn't the last fit into the "Rants" section? ;) :p
