General chat thread

You ever had that dream where there's like a room full of spiders you need to go in, get covered by them as they crawl all over you, and it's the nice part?

Because my brain last nigh invented parasitic, stick-like insect the length of a finger that burrow into your bones, feast on your bone marrow, and when you inevitably die soon they move out to another host, and you are certain you've been infected for some time already? I'm also sure they are resistant to all traditional methods of cooking meat, and yes, they infest animals as well.

The reproductive cycle needs some work to figure out still though.

Never had any dreams like that, closest one was me spitting out an endless stream of teeth. Which honestly left me more confused than anything else since, you know, humans aren't supposed to have a literal mouthful of teeth.

I woke myself up when I realized that there was really no point to the dream.

"Follow your dreams!"
"Including the dream about a city burning?"
"Okay, maybe not that one."

I had a dream like that once. I was happy during it because at the time I was waiting on an appointment to deal with what turned out to be a nasty abscess. Waking up to realize I hadn't spit out all my teeth was very sad.

My weird dreams almost invariably have me trying to do math.

You ever done math in your sleep? Let me assure you: you don't.

Oh, you can think you did it, well enough to beat a cursory glance, but the second you 'check' your 'work', everything goes straight out the window. Lots of 'wait, did this number change?' to go around.

That, and the many, many times I've dreamt of writing pictures. No, not drawing. Writing. Pictures. But those happen so often to me that I don't even notice, anymore. Hazard of the job, I guess.

Yeah they do. I had a chance to do an experiment on this phenomena while half-asleep last morning.

If you keep just skimming around, the words change all the time. Read one word, go to the next, the previous one changes, unless you pay attention. Same with sentences, but much worse.

So I got myself a piece of paper in my dream, with a few words scribbled on, and get to testing.

Sure enough, flip your eyes from one word to the next and then back, the first one changes to something different. So, I pay special attention to this one special word, keep it in mind, and then from the corner of my vision I can see all the other words on the page flipping like crazy. I turn attention to one of them, it solidifies into the first word. I flip back, the first word stayed the same. I flip to third word, it becomes a copy of the other two, but with a single randomly added letter. I do it a few more time, and the first word kept the same, while most of the words only slightly mutated.

Was fun experiment.

I finally got around to installing an adblocker on my web browsers, and HOLY SHIT the internet is more tolerable now. No more 2 ads in a row on youtube. I can actually read new sites without half the fucking screen covered in ads.

If you don't already have an adblocker, O recommended you get one. I personally use uBlock origin.

Welcome home child. Nice to see another larva finally pupating into its better form.

Now install SponsorBlock to get rid of even more ads.

No more several minutes lost when your youtuber of choice starts talking about Raid Shadow Legends or Hello Fresh.

Ooooh, that sounds like a shiny piece of software. But I can do that manually, and sometimes the youtubers bring up a product I am interested in buying, so I will decline on that front.

Well, I understand.

It took you this long to install the basic adblock after all.

You will learn, in time.

Quick question for those that might care, I have written a lot of basic power fantasy(trash) stories that I have never published, they are pretty much only prologues that never reached chapter 1, my question is: should I publish them on my trash dump thread?
a lot isn't finished or misses sections of story that I would write in one or two-liners.

Should I do it?

Why not?

I don't know, its just that a lot is unfinished stuff that don't complete even a single chapter.
If you post a string of ideas and half-formed plots and openings, then that is fine. It would be a possible inspiration, or warning, for others. Unless there is material in there that actively embarrasses you, it shouldn't be a big deal to publish online.

Can anyone recommend me a CYOA or something similar that helps me build an alien species? The more comprehensive the better.

No offense but I think this question should be more for the General CYOA Thread.

Now general question if you were sent to one of the next verses which would you select? Warhammer 40k, SCP Universe, Worm, Earth-0 Gotham(DC Comics), Earth-616 New York(Marvel Comics).

I think I would choose between Hotham and Warhammer 40k.
In Gotham with enough luck I might be able to get enough money for a bus to any city, in Warhammer I might be lucky enough to fall in a World without war and live my life there.

Earth-616 New York, I'd either immediately get flattened by a bus or I wouldn't. I might get cool powers, or I won't. Plenty of heroes dealing with shit too.

This is a trick question anyways, we already live in the SCP universe. Thank god the Foundation does good work.

I keep having flashbacks to bad or weird events and memories on my life. Does anyone know how to stop this?

You probably need to see a mental health expert. Sorry to say, but most of the time, for things like that, asking random people on the internet will net little useful advice (hypocritical as that statement is).

Flashback as in 'remember embarrassing memories'? Because if it's that, them I'm sorry to inform you that disease is known as 'life'.

Good news: it'll stop, eventually. Bad news: it's terminal.

Flashback as in 'actual hallucinations'? Seek expert help.
