Using your example, if someone got into DMC because they liked that show, I don't want them in the same community as me; I don't much like sharing the same air with them, to be honest. Fake fans don't improve the community's health, they're a cancer only slightly less terminal than malicious idiot owners. I don't think HtP fans are anywhere near that bad, but they are already producing a deluge of people who think they're experts on a setting they've come into with a number of false impressions about. If they want to play HtP themed games amongst themselves, write HtP fanfics, or what have you, more power to them, but when they come in and start being authoritatively incorrect to tables playing real canon or their own bespoke tablecanon, then it can and does create issues.

I'm sure plenty of them will go on to educate themselves about their new interest, learn the proper lore, and become worthwhile members of the community; however, I've already seen many that display no interest in actually integrating and want to force the setting to comply to their misimpressions rather than appreciating it for what it is. Not the worst I've seen, but it could easily be partially alleviated (nothing is ever truly idiot proof) by adding a simple blurb to that dark pact splash screen more clearly explaining the show's lore is based heavily on headcanon rather than itself merely not being a canon product (there is a difference; every session anyone's played is noncanon, but they could be canon-compliant or noncanon-compliant on a case by case basis, and the current splash screen does not make this difference clear).
It wouldn't change shit the people you are talking about wouldn't even read the damn thing I literally deal with this shit all day. I have a big ass sign that says we don't provide this service. People still look at and ask do you do this?

Edit to simplify my post.

This makes me think of a story I heard a long time ago. Where a psych ward had a group of guys thinking they were Jesus. So the put them all in the same room.
If I recall correctly, it resulted in two of them having breakdowns and all of them becoming dramatically worse. Ultimately, it was an interesting glimpse into the ways broken minds operate, how they take in data, interpret it, then twist it around to fit their maddened world view. One of them got just to the very brink of realizing his own condition by way of analyzing his fellow nutbars, but simply could not make the connection that he was doing the same thing they were even though he had all the data and seemed to be unconsciously aware of it. It ended in disaster, with the experiment ultimately causing their conditions to worsen, trust to collapse, and the very idea of such experiments to be called into question as unethical. Fascinating nonetheless. Honestly, drawing it back to WoD, it's kinda similar to how Mauraders operate, with their twisted world views corrupting any data they take in until it fits into the shards of their brain– minus the reality warping, of course.

Unlike that experiment, Mauraders can and have been know to work together. And even in shared madness can work together

It is a fairly decent splash screen, yes, but I can't help but notice it never actually outright says "some of this is compeltely made up," rather it says "this is an amalgam of editions." You can take that implication if you know corpo speak, especially the third to last paragraph almost says it outright, but it never quite gets all the way to saying that in plain english. The red text at the bottom is a decent touch, though this whole splash screen sadly clearly hasn't worked on many, nor do I imagine most pause to read this relatively small text when it pops up for a few seconds. Like I said, you can only idiot proof so much before the universe builds a bigger, better idiot, but a less corpo splash outright saying "some of this lore is entirely made up for this custom setting," would help prevent this from accidentally implying it's only a mishmash rather than a mishmash plus whole cloth inventions.

HTR being non canon is fine, its the fans that take it as canon that may be a issue. I can respect going their own way with lore, but I don't vibe with it

Ah. Sadly, my stance is closer to Sinnerlust's that there's really nothing that can be done about it, but I am not optimistic that the new fans would actually learn Canon, unlike him.

Had an odd idea while reading an unrelated QQ story and thinking of the WoD.

Would, in a Hentai World AU of WoD, Pentex be a good fit for the evil corporation that does the hentai corruption thing (stuff likemind-control, brainwashing, creating aphrodisiacs/drugs, body modifications, creating tentacle monsters, magic Lewd Crests, etc)?
Kinda like Nomad in the Taimanin setting/franchise.
Cause from what I Know Pentex already does a bunch of similar things, though with Wyrm corruption rather than Hentai corruption.

Or are they too exclusive to the Werewolves and not interact with the other factions to play such a part?
And if they're not a fit who would be a better fit?

I mean, I wouldn't say any of the current factions in how they work fit for it. Pentex is too evil/wyrm based where it would go... far worse then that shit. Union could but doesn't fit their themes at all. And those are the big two who could do it in terms of factions, smaller groups could but can't think of proper names rn.

What kind of Auspice would a Garou get if they're born during a full Lunar Eclipse?
And I don't mean born on the day of the Eclipse, but they're born on the exact moment the Moon is completely eclipsed.

Cause a full Lunar Eclipse is technically speaking both a New Moon and Full Moon, as a Lunar Eclipse can only happen during full moon, but the moon is still fully within Earth's shadow, causing a full Lunar Eclipse, also called a Blood Moon.

So if they're born during the exact moment of the Eclipse/Blood Moon, would they get both the Ragabash and Ahroun Auspice effects, or something completely different and much more rare?

Just watched a 90% Solar Eclipse so it's kinda on my mind.

Free random idea I had:
An Isekai/Insert main character who ends up in the WoD as a Fera/Shifter, but they end up as a member of a lost Gaia faction.

This could be as an extinct Changing Breed such as the Apis, Bunyip, Camazotz, Grondr, etc, or from an extinct Garou Tribe like the Croatan or uncorrupted White Howlers, or maybe something like a Bastet Khara tribe.

When watching a video on Hunter: The Parenting, someone said the phrase; "Werewolf Mommy Muscles", which is just a hilarious mental image for the WoD Garou.

Oh they would definetely be the corporate antagonist in a hentai setting.

They are the de facto agent of the Defiler Wyrm after all.

The second best for that would be the Technocracy from Mage

And the third semi valid group(s) would be the Nephandi, Baali, the followers of Lilith, the Kuei Jin and honestly every larger organisation that decided they want to support fucked up things and have a public front.

The issue is Pentex would likely go far and I mean far into stuff that goes beyond what those corpoerats do. While the Union just isn't their style? By that I mean, magical lewd crests? Tentacles monsters? Well some of the progenitors might but the Union as a whole is hard to see using that one. Hypnosis or Cyberntics overide are more Union style

A disturbing thought skittered across my brain that I desperately want to squash.

Know how all those "Dark Romance" (Monster Fucker Porn) books are EXPLODING in popularity lately?

What if that's actually a joint venture between the Children of Gaia and the Glass Walker tribes to seed the ground for massively increasing the number of incidental Kinfolk among the Garou Nation AND get some money in the process off of weird horny women?

The basic idea is to develop anti-delirium gifts and rites, then show that the "Billionaire Werewolf" is real and just let nature take its course.

The Furies, the Silver Fangs, and the Red Talons would be spitting-nails pissed. The Get and the Fianna would probably find it funny.

Most of that's already canon; Kyrysma perfume, Satyr-day Night cologne, whatever else Pangloss and Siren Cosmetics get up to... Freak Legion has Merits for having tentacles, addictive or corruptive (or corrosive or boiling) bodily fluids, and genitals of all shapes and sizes, with the caveat that those shapes and sizes might kill your partner. They even have a Pentex-backed fraternity (Sons of Typhon) that just does wild parties and rape.

Honestly it's not "would they do hentai world stuff" so much as "would they chill with the part of the hentai world stuff they already have, that kills people"

What about HMOFA? It's an entire genre that's blowing up lately regarding men and furry women. Also an unhealthy amount of femdom but that's just the reign of safe horny. Well that and the more obvious power differences between any child of Gaia and a normal human.

Another disturbing thought, considering how all of these "monsters" are rich or high flying executives, what if it's actually Pentex doing it because they finally figured out how to make Yeren breed true?
