How do I stop getting email notifications?

I have "get email notifications of OP replies" and "get email notifications for replies" turned off in preferences but I'm still getting some emails on my account when people reply to certain threads. I've looked through the options several times but I can't find a relevant option to have these emails stop coming. I don't want to have them all forwarded to my spam folder but I don't want to learn about every new reply for every thread I revisit on a whim

Have you checked so that when you watch a thread you don't have the option to get email notifications?

"Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply..."? No, from the wording I assumed that that would simplymake it so that threads I make and reply to aren't auto watched. I'll uncheck it if it prevents me from getting emails
