Ever since you were just a kid, you've hated stories of heroes and villains. Brave knights slaying dark lords, heroes out to make the world a better place. Jobbers, the lot of them: every dark lord, every mastermind, every villain. Even as a baby you looked at them and sneered down your nose. If that kind of part-time darkness could achieve anything then the world wouldn't even be worth conquering in the first place! How dare those bastards approach evil with that kind of half-hearted bullshit attitude!

Not one of those heroes you've read about was any good! Not one deserved to win. What, are you supposed to read a story book and get all dewy eyed because some naive oaf who doesn't even know what end of a sword to hold managed to beat someone utterly incompetent? Bullshit. That's all those heroes and villains really are. But that's fine. You'll show them what a real dark lord looks like. You'll show them all!

That's right, this world calls out for evil! Silently it sings, begging for a dark savior to rise up and claim it! (Naturally that's you. Yeah.) Why? Well:

[ ] Don't be stupid! World domination is a man's romance! Aspiring toward power, toward glory, toward domination is just what it means to be a man, so if you're a real man then you'll obviously aim for something at least this big, right? . +Charisma, grandstanding -a sense of shame

[ ] The world is mired in shades of gray. Corrupt priests and benevolent tyrants. It's tepid like lukewarm soup. You'll change that. You'll craft yourself into a shadow that demands a light burn bright enough to match you. You will show the world the platonic ideal of darkness, of evil and wake it from its Disgraceful slumber! +Bullshit philosophical tangents -ambition

[ ] Hookers and blow. What? You expected some noble goal? Some corrupt ideal and purity in darkness? Grow up you fucking chuunis. Money and power are all that matters in life! World domination? That's bullshit. You just want to get your and tell everyone else to fuck off. Naturally you should get a lot more than anyone else.

[ ] A reason? What? Don't be silly. Do you need a reason to breathe or a reason to eat? +Pure Evil -Common Sense

[ ] Well, you totally told everyone back home that you'd do it. And if you backed down now they'd never stop laughing at you. +Obstinacy -self-esteem

So what if you're just a kid? You're on your own from now on! And, since you're going to rule the world sooner or later, your opinion is the only one that counts, so you must be an adult!

Still, you can only afford to spend a moment marveling at your own brilliance right now. Today is the day! Today, in a few hours, you'll learn magic! You'll undergo your initiation and learn the names of the three elements inside you that will give you the power to reshape the world? Will you have fire and water and stuff that normal? From what you know most magic users are born of such pedestrian elements. But no matter how you think about it, you don't think anyone as amazing as you could really be so ordinary.

Maybe you'll have evil as one of yours, or apocalypse? Those would be pretty nifty for your career path. But you're not picky. You'd settle for something like meteor elementalism or destruction or tyranny elementalism if you really have to settle. Regardless, your elements, the three forces that shape the limits of your magic--are so fundamentally a part of you, you can't possibly imagine a situation where you have anything that isn't impossibly awesome and menacing.

Today you get magic! There's nothing that could go wrong today! *

But, well, first….

[ ] You need to actually read this book you pinched off that old guy in the robes and figure out how to do this whole magic initiation thing on yourself. Today you stop being just another boy off the streets and start being an awesome mage! Starting Bonus: Freedom! Staring Penalty: Everything else, Illiterate

[ ] Go meet with that damn tutor. He's always telling you how a proper noble has to show decorum and mustn't laugh so eerily. Well, he's teaching you to awaken your magic today so you can forgive it for now. Starting Bonuses: Money, Status. Starting Penalty: Familial Obligations

[ ] Report to the dorms. As one of the few scholarship students at Saint Isabelle's Academy for Young ladies, you're getting an education far beyond anything you could ever imagine growing so average. Well, that's only your due as true evil! Starting Bonuses: School Connections, Intelligence, Knowledge. Starting Penalties: Confined to School

[ ] Find a way to ditch the caravan. Living as one of the traders has taught you a lot and you finally saved up enough for this awesome book that's told you how to learn magic, but your parents won't let you use it at all, so you'll need to find somewhere to hide. Starting Bonuses: Financial Sense, Cunning Linguist Starting Penalties: Discrimination, caring family

[ ] Write in (Costs One Protagonist Point)

Remaining Protagonist Points: 3

*Yes. You actually thought that.

((OOC: Okay, a few notes! This quest is mostly aimed at comedy, potentially black comedy. You are going to play a fairly incompetent/unlikely dark lord slowly struggling and growing into a genuine menace in a fantasy kingdom. Even then I'm going to aim for fairly light with potentially occasional bouts of terror.

I realize that I didn't throw in much world building, but this first post has focused a bit more on what kind of character you want to play. Things will change a bit depending on which options you go for.

A small spoiler for the next few posts so no one gets the wrong idea: You are not going to get awesome elements. You will not even get mediocre elements. Rather, your magic (the precise mechanics of which will be explained later) is going to revolve around things that are absolutely awful for anyone who wants to be taken seriously as a dark lord…. Or taken seriously at all really.

You'll have some choice, but expect elements to be things like well, Candy, Pink, Hugs. Taking these and figuring out how to train them into legitimately useful options for evilz is going to be a major goal here and hopefully a source of humor.

Re: NSFW Content. The PC is starting out at 14. Yes real fantasy worlds are vaguely midevilish and kids were getting married at that age and whatever. The fact is that, while I have no aversion to NSFW content, you won't be seeing any of that in official posts or any acknowledged omakes for at least a few years ICly. Romance is fine, but anything more risque than holding hands is going to wait until you're at least 3ish years older than you are now.

And yeah, this holds true even if you start at the girl's school.))

Magic

Classification: Ember
Mana: 5/7 (recover 1/8 hours)

Creation of Sunshine: 1
The light you create is the gentle glow of the sun on a summer's day.
-Ambient Light Lv1: Makes your immediate environment subtly brighter without generating any noticeable light. (Cost 1 mana/10 minutes)
-Wilting in Darkness Lv1: Your element rejuvenates you. Heal approximately three to four times as fast in direct sunlight, but become drained and even sick if you don't spend significant time in direct sunshine.

Bestowal of Cuteness: 1
In your hands things become more approachable, adorable and effeminate
-Cuteness Lv1: Rather than changing a discrete characteristic, your most basic bestowal simply alters your overall feel making you seem subtly more endearing and vulnerable while in use. Only effects adult males. Cost (1 mana/minute)
-Radiation Lv 1: Your power leaks when allowed to build. So long as you have full MP, things around you gradually become more cute, suffering permanent physical changes.
Destruction of Masculinity: 1
You're able to destroy the qualities that make someone a real man like you.
-Corrosion Lv1: Through physical contact you can slowly erase the most obvious physical qualities of a true man, reducing muscle mass, altering body-shape and decreasing height. Takes hours to show visible results (cost 1 mana/minute)
-Antibodies Lv1: Your magic acts as an antibody to masculinity. Efforts to make yourself more masculine will find their effects more than reversed. Skills that seem feminine may be acquired twice as fast.

Abilities
Body: 1
You're a klutz, pure and simple.
-Wimp Lv3: Your weakness is things that hurt, or require physical stamina, or strength.
-Klutzy Lv2: When your head wasn't in the clouds your nose was buried in a book. You're not exactly the most graceful or physically competent individual.

Mind: 4
Despite your appearance, your personality, and basically everything else about you, you're actually a pretty talented scholar. A true man conquers even the words on a page.
-Diligent Scholar Lv5: Contrary to appearances you're actually quite dedicated when you're motivated enough to try. Training for any cognitively demanding task or skill takes roughly twice as long but becomes several times more effective.
-Specialist Lv3: You tend to be an expert when you start applying yourself and... completely ignorant about common knowledge when you don't.
-Thaumaturge (Expert): From a theoretical standpoint your knowledge of magic is as good as anyone who isn't a famous researcher. Your lack of any practical experience and your refusal to read theology hinder your growth here.
-Economist (Prodigy): You understand markets in general, and you're quite familiar with the prices of many key goods.
-Natural Philosopher (Prodigy): You're passingly familiar with theories of how the world works, no matter how ludicrous they are. You're also acquainted with the experimental method.
-Historian (Prodigy): You have a general familiarity with the course of history. You could date most any significant event and describe it's impact on world affairs.

Charisma: 2
You're a little more charismatic than average for your age, but your prefered behavior tends to run counter to your actual talents.
-Conqueror's Will Lv6: From the start, your dreams were impossible, yet you still dared dream. Massive bonus to your raw willpower and determination.
-Dreamer's Ego Lv1: You burn brightest when you are truest to your nature. Persuasion becomes more effective the more selfish and larger than life you appear.
-Hapless Beauty Lv5: No matter how hard you try, something about your appearance makes people underestimate you. Attempts to look helpless, stupid or inept are far more effective when you're the one attempting them. This perk also penalizes all efforts to seem competent or in charge.
-Poor Liar Lv3: Deceit is a coward's tool. A true man steps forward boldly, screaming his passions to the world. Even when you try to lie, you usually end up side-tracked into blurting out the truth.
-She's Crazy Lv2: You have a rather bad reputation it seems. Bonuses to intimidate others. Penalties to all other interactions

System Information

This post will be updated as the rules are explained or, if need-be, changed. I don't imagine things will get that crazy, but I'd just as soon have the quick glossary ready from the start.

Protagonist points: These are a bit of an experiment on my part. Protagonist points are OOC rewards for either doing something bad for your PC that is extraordinarily in character or as a reward for catching GM mistakes, potentially writing omakes, etc. Their main use is narrative control. What does that mean?

Well, enough protagonist points could, for example, have the street rat option end up being not just an orphan but someone important's orphan! This won't retcon established information in the narrative, but they can fill in/alter missing pieces. For example "This school totally needs some evilish reporter type character", if you end up feeling that way you can toss a few protagonist points at it and have one appear. Or you could use them to change the way people react to your character initially. They won't change established content, but behind-the-scenes stuff could easily do so. They won't retcon out things that have happened, but they will let you add expansion packs to your past or fill in space over timeskips.

That said protagonist points will also be used for undoing bad-ends, creating write-ins where they otherwise aren't allowed (for example the first post, for something like a selection of magic item rewards for completing a quest) or easing your path toward certain upgrades.

As noted they're a bit of an experiment and I reserve the right to change the system up. In general, the only cost I'm going to commit universally on is that undoing a bad end will cost 1 PP unless you've just fixed one already. Spamming bad-ends will raise the cost progressively, but I don't imagine things will be that lethal really.

If you want to spend PP on player initiative, you can describe a plan and I'll be happy to cost it out.

Oh well it will be fun when the hero calls us out on our evil and we show him how much of a good ruler we are :D

Why wouldn't you want to be a street rat looking forward to dreams of destruction and rule? What else could a man do but to raise up from his lowly beginning into the terror of cities. The blood soaked conqueror of empires.

But until then, you'll just be a lowly thief.

The first goal is to become the Prince of Thieves.

[X] Man's Romance.

[X] You should dig your way out of the collapsed wreckage. With this being the third time you've woken up with everything around you burning, you've gotten used to both getting somewhere less incandescent and how quick the rescuers are to chalk up everyone still trapped as already dead. Your family home and foster home, that was one thing, but seeing as the temple-funded poorhouse was comprised almost entirely of stone, you'd have thought it would be less flammable. On the plus side, you seem to have found your way into a secret cellar, with a book standing ominously on an ornate pedestal.

We can be GirlKamina, right? Going on about a burning manly soul while wearing a skirt?
Because that's awesome.

I wonder if we are the only boy in an all girl school. What if we are a Trap? A boy who thinks he's a girl? Oh well, it looks like fun anyways.
