  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.

  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Is translation of your own work into French allowed?

So the rules only explicitly prohibit translating others works. But I was thinking of translating my fic (originally in English) into French.

A few points I could use clarification on:
1) It seems like this would be entirely allowed per the rules.
2) It also seems like this is primarily an English forum and it wouldn't necessary get any traction. (I couldn't find any foreign language tags when I was searching. Rewrite/translation exists, but has no hits in creative writing.)
2.5) If I wanted to proceed anyway, would it be viewed harmlessly or as meaningless spam?

Although the ones with final say would be @alethiophile @ultima333 I don't think this will be accepted for the following reasons.

So to points 1 and 2 while we don't have a section for it in the rules I know we have a "The language of the forum is English" posted somewhere, it is the language everyone on staff understands and expects to be used.

As for 2.5 moderators would probably send you a message to the effect "the language of the board is english, please use it" the first time… repeated instances would not go over well.

I think the only sites that accept multiple languages are Wattpad, Webnovel, and FanFiction.net.

If you want to post in French, you might want to check out those options.

Correct: QQ is an English-speaking forum, so while translating your own fic is fine, posting it here in French is not.

The big archive sites that are not also forums are likelier to be friendly to this. I know for a fact AO3 allows it.

Wait, QQ bans posting fics in non-English?
Really?

Kinda a necessity really.

If you post non-english works, who knows what it says? How many of the staff can read it to make sure it is what you say it is? If none of the staff can, well, guess they just have to take your word for it. And even if some of them are able to read it, 90% of normal users won't which means the chances of anyone ever seeing it and reporting it are low.

You could basically do whatever you wanted in a non-English thread.

Yes, we require postings (including story content) to be English, because otherwise we couldn't moderate it.

Archive sites have less of a net moderation concern to begin with, since they have less of a community interaction aspect; and also, a place like AO3 has the resources to actually hire moderators who know more languages.
