• An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • We've issued a clarification on our policy on AI-generated work.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Potential Rule 8 Question: Regarding the Recent Anti-NSFW Content Bans...

I mean, I don't think QQ is a petitions site, I think there are a bunch around there already.

And I don't see why people that can do it shouldn't sign the one @CptTagon linked.
yeah qq ain't a site for those being hosted but posting links to those sites in other places is how they are found by other people most of the time.

so is it ok to post on boards about this topic as it at the very least technically pertains to the future of qq or not?

So, yeah, for anyone that might be interested here are some Ansible playbooks and wrapping that can let you roll your own VPN in a plethora of cloud providers, and generate configs for you:

In related news I found where you can get steam vouchers/gift cards and got myself a few, with cash.

I am not swiping my card anywhere unless it is absolutely necessary, like travel.

sorry to break it to you but gift cards go through payment processors so it ain't a solution.

Welp the last bastions of video porn (that I know of in the UK) have fallen to the age verification hoard xvideos and tnaflix have bent the knee also the our lords and masters have responded to the petition with a hearty "go fuck yourselves plebs we ain't removing the act"

The inevitable future of civilization is a purityrannical die-stopia wherein the only entertainment you will be allowed to possess is the ability to pray to the God of the state religion that you die in your sleep until you finally do fall asleep. the only luxuries you will be allowed to possess is the luxury of accumulating debt that will then be inherited by your children whom you had no say in producing as even reproducing is state mandated, as the corporations need a constant influx of product and consumer. You will own nothing and be forced to feel Despair and desperation so they can sell you the Idea of relief while stomping out anything that could even vaguely offer a crumb of it.

They'll do another step towards that future, people will complain and whine, companies and governments will tell them to sit down and shut up, the whining will continue for a week maybe a month... Then it'll stop as the enshitification is normalized. Things will only get worse and never get better.

It does say that, though it does also say, paraphrased, they aren't ruthlessly going after every single platform that hosts adult content. Only the ones that pose significant risk of those underage being a part of it. If there is no significant risk, they only require worthwhile controls on illegal content, which QQ does have with the moderation team. So... Fair chance that they do pretty much ignore QQ. It's small, has a barrier to even knowing it has adult content on it without making an account, and is a niche writing forum for nerds. One can hope that's enough.

But you know what makes people feel comfortable with a legal framework? Hearing that the legal framework will be enforced arbitrarily at the whims of the authorities. Super duper comfortable. /s

sounds like we need to bring the guillotine out of retirement if that is even close to happening.

And that is if we don't just go back to the older ways of porn distribution i.e. ye, old porn stump

Jesus fucking Christ just put me on your Ignore List already if'n I have that much Influence on you. I don't even Know you, why does my Opinion matter.

I have two Steam Games that will take a bit to go down the list of Entertainment they're deleting, been quite useful to cycle between those to be too busy to care for this crap:
Melvor Idle
Hardspace: Shipbreaker

The first is a non-Idle-able Idle Game and the other is literally "you have a job in Space. You take appart ships and sometimes explode. Sometimes". The later is addictive and can be played infinitely. As long as your computer was made after 2015 it should run buttery smooth. Which is weird given it really feels like it shouldn't but it does. Another suggestion is "Shapez 2", it's a 3D version of Shapez 1 and is basically just "build a factory and try to maximize optimization. You have infinite resources forever". Shapez 1 being a .io Game while Shapez 2 is another Game that feels like it should be melting current Era PCs but could run on one from 2005 fairly well. Another is Traveller's Rest, literally just "own a tavern and watch DnD adventures begin in real time as the barkeep". I recommend getting vodka up and running, pretty much cheating from how much booze money you'll rake in.

If it's QQ you're worried about then it'll likely slip through the cracks for a good long while. It's also US based so there's that keeping it stable and able to tell foreign laws to fuckoff. Personally I worry about CoCII and Latex Dungeon and a few others.

I think I may immolate myself in protest.
...that's literally the purityrannicals' wet dreams. Seeing someone kill themselves will only motivate them. They want you to kill yourself because it's what they think of as progress.

Seriously. Get some air. Find something soft and cuddly and cuddle the soft thing. Rats make for good friends when you get them to trust you. Cats also are cuddly creatures. Maine Coons are known as the gentle giants for a Reason, bred specifically to be the cuddliest of kitties. Get therapy.

If ya need even more Motivation to live then develop an addiction to Stories, if'n ya die then ya can't get to Read the next one or if a Game in Early Access gets another Update then ya won't be able ta Play it. Works for me as my Motivation to live. Depend on the small things. Fury of the small and all that jazz.

OTW has stated they will not be complying with the UKs request, I believe. They aren't at the mercy of payment processors because they are a non profit, and they take donations more or less for the sole purpose of running the site and having lawyers for these sorts of things, to my understanding.

Based in New York, makes biyearly updates regarding Censorship Bills. Only Bill they didn't talk about that could have threatened it within the State failed due to end-of-session bill wipes earlier this Month. Here's something from the Free Speech Coalition to keep track.

Federal Government can't do anything right already and this one especially won't, August is their vacation month (also: calendar, calendar, calendar), end-of-session wipes on January, GovTrack helps with assurance against certain Bills (not gonna provide the ones I'm watching but I have 7 tabs, only 1 maybe 2 are a threat to any Website and GovTrack only list 1 of the 7 as being above 10% Chance of Passing and it's a tentative 3rd for to the threat list) and currently the Epstein thing is fucking them up so badly that they're doing fuck-fuck games to try and not talk about it alongside trying to reverse what they did with Trump's attempt to steal and destroy anything Biden did despite being the ones to vote it to happen and doing the actual tax part they couldn't put it. Any Censorship Bills from the Federal Government are more for next year. Assuming they don't accidentally cause the next US Civil War mixed with the French Revolution with all the "let them eat cake" they have been doing. SCOTUS last Month also threw in some complication from FSC v Paxton by putting Age Verification in a Schrödinger's Constitutional Right by instead of reviewing Porn as the content it was reviewed on who it impact and declaring it's a violation for adults to be forced to do Age Verification but not children.

If it's the IODA one I assume ya have been hearing about: Don't.
It's trying to change the Miller Test. A Test set down by the Supreme Court. They need most of both the House and Senate to change that like overturning a Veto would.
On top of that it's a stupid change. It's literally just duplicating Factor 1. For Reference the Miller Test is a three part test requiring all three parts to simultaneously be met. Which is impossible. Because it was factoring in the ultimate Pornography to be protected due to being at a time when Laws would be applied equally. The ultimate Pornography being the Bible. For Reference the current Miller Test is:
1: Prurient Interest
2: Illegal for the local community standards (this was to connect to the Definition of "Obscene" due to it being meant to make "Obscene Porn" (not all Porn) Illegal and this is the one they're trying to change. Couldn't be use for enforcement even before the Internet)
3: If taken in its whole by a reasonable person contains the work, taken as a whole, possesses any serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value beyond prurient interest. (Most Stories count for that. Really only Websites like Pornhub and Xvideos in which their Videos are just sex is the only thing that could be targeted. Note it weirdly doesn't mention Economic which I wouldn't be surprised if anyone was serious about the IODA could have the addition advertised as being to add but poison pilled with the other change)
GovTrack lists the IODA as only 1% and the Senate version at 2% and for Good Reason, these are simply the "my constituents throat my dick for this" Bills that are put forward to claim to be doing something. Also the guy that created IODA is a weirdo freak that does stuff like that in Politics so him putting that out there is expected. Heard a while back the rest of his own Party hates him for it so even if that had a chance it still would likely fail out of personal vindictiveness for the guy.

Aside from that they have their own Law Division specifically to ensure independents from shit like Steam is experiencing never can happen.

...I'm not answering that. I have a VPN which is why. Depends on the country. I have the VPN specifically to test out Laws other countries have to see how it would affect me should those Laws happen where I live. Pretty sure it's a US Website though? Websites can move to different countries but one of the benefits of the US right now is that it trying to kill itself is that it's too busy arguing if it should disembowel itself, shoot itself, or set itself on fire to be able to fuck with Censorship effectively. Maybe last century it could put itself in order enough to do it like it actually did for a while but not much anymore. One side are purityrannical extremists that actively want to murder the otherside and most of the country and be praised for it not just by their supporters but their victims as well making bipartisanship hard (especially doesn't help some of the more influential voices are claiming that Politics was "too bipartisan") while the other is currently split between status quo obsessed more amicable less extreme version of the purityrannicals that have been doing their own version of the Southern Strategy out of thinking the US genuinely is as vile as the other side and what they regard as extremists for being where the other Party used to sit 20 years ago before the country went off the deep end.

So if it's a US Website it should be protected and AFAIK it's only an Image Host so I don't think it does anything that a payment parasite could try and force.

I literally buy the gift card, rub the stuff that conceals the code, then input the code into steam to get steam wallet funds, where the hell does a payment processor come in?

Like all legal frameworks made by incompetent and corrupt politicians, you mean?

Humor aside, since QQ is US based, the Beitbongistan can not do anything about it, at most they can order their ISPs to block it's IP.

And from what I hear there are already grumblings about the UK's latest bullshit and some of the latest idiocy the EU commission has put into the DSA being anti-freedom of speech and censieous against Americans.

And the current crop of EU politicians will piss and shit their pants if somebody high enough in the USA says boo, we saw that over the weekend. 🤣

Ugh don't remind me about that, embarrassing is the politest term that comes to mind over the bullshit that Trump has done and how readely von der Layen has taken it on her ass.

Not thread topic but had to get it off my chest.

Dude, I am a huge eurosceptic that wants to roll the EU back a few decades and newter the commission. You know, going back to De Gaulle's Yurup of sovereign nations...
(Hard to imagine it can be newtered further , given it's head's latest servile idiocy), and I felt bad and embarrassed because of that performance and think Orange Man bent us over a table and screwed us over.

As an European I feel your pain.

As an Asian I genuinely am surprised at how nuts a lot of Westerners have become on both the social and political fronts.

I used to envy your countries when I was way younger but now.....you all make my country look sane in comparison despite all our own fuck ups.

As an Eastern European I kinda feel the same.

There are three things big money is afraid of:
1. Losing money (unless it's your money, not their own)
2. Taking personal responsibility for anything
3. Getting physically attacked

The options for ordinary people, therefore, are:
1. Boycotts
2. Naming and shaming
3. Torches and pitchforks

Except

1: no longer works because the Monopolies are too deeply entrenched to be boycotted effectively and are being backed by the State to prevent competitors from rising
2: no longer works because the Media is utterly compromised/owned by or colluding with the big money

and nobody has the will to go for three anymore.

Yeah, all for the minor fact that the other megacorpos that sell shit to customers and have to use these intermediaries don't like to waste billions each year to pay off some idiots they try and interfere with them being able to run their business.
And the fact that it is impossible to completely quash competition, no matter how big of a pack of lawyers and paid off politicians you might have.

Oh, and let us not forget that aside from the USA and it's satraps there are other countries on the planet thet take a dim view to their financial system being under foreign control and their enterprises being extorted and told what to do by some foreigners.

Most countries outside of the USA have some form of national payment system, even several.
There are national and regional payment settlement systems, there is Bitcoin and other cryptos and cash and gold and phone based payment that has nothing to do with credit card systems.

This is fake moon landing territory bad conspiracy theory level.

What, you think that if the USA faked it China, the USSR and a whole host of other countries with telescopes and the actual ability to go there and claim that first wouldn't have told the world?

Some stuff that has helped calm Doomerism a little was this Reddit Thread:

Learned of it from SB when the more amicable one of the two people fighting Doomerism was active. Before they got Banned for only Posting the Thread Link. Later the more hostile one also got Banned for going even more vehemently hostile.

I literally buy the gift card, rub the stuff that conceals the code, then input the code into steam to get steam wallet funds, where the hell does a payment processor come in?
Store side, you pay for the card and Steam creates the Steam tokens when you put it in but the payment parasites have a cut from the store. The Economy is a woven web of vast complexity.

And from what I hear there are already grumblings about the UK's latest bullshit and some of the latest idiocy the EU commission has put into the DSA being anti-freedom of speech and censieous against Americans.
Started this year with getting a refresher on how US government works now getting a crash course in the UKs. What is with this fucked up journey to a purityrannical die-stopia shithell.

Apparently they have to take petitions into consideration. After 100,000 I think they have to take them legitimately seriously? But after it got 400,000 their response was "fuck you, no". Learned that on the Political Optimism Thread, both the stages petitions can take and the response before hearing it from elsewhere as well. Apparently they're in a "jump in the fire or get crushed to death" situation since the opposition party to the current controlling one is promising to repeal it... and also take away everyone's Healthcare and has a History of saying literally anything to get control. So pretty sure neither Party will touch it and don't think they currently have alternatives assuming their System allows for such.

And the current crop of EU politicians will piss and shit their pants if somebody high enough in the USA says boo, we saw that over the weekend. 🤣
Eh, more likely the whining is less "they're trying to Censor the world!" and more "Why didn't we do that first!?".
[skimming]
Although can at least agree on the Idea they're professing to be concerned about. Was wondering how many decades would take them to notice.

You can't age gate the internet, only the big providers will be affected. All this will do is push people into: using a VPN, or visiting sketchy sites that have no regard for the law. Sites that likely have legal and immoral content because they ether have a small moderation team, or they just don't give a crap.

For this to be even remotely effective It'd need to be a global initiatives, and that's not happening. Ever.

Sorry if its stupid asking this, but does VPN works on sites that need you to log in like here in QQ or the nsfw threads in reddit?
Yes.
A modern VPN like say Wireguard usually does several things.(Don't remember how older solutions like Swan and OpenVPN worked, and I am not a network guy, I usually just use whatever corpo slop I get provided with.)

First, it creates a tunnel between your system and the VPN server, then it does network address translation from your private IP within the VPN, which stands for Virtual Private network to the IP of the your traffic to whatever you need to access.

So for the world at large your traffic is originating from the IP of the VPN server.

All of this is done on layer 3 of the so called OSI model, authentication and authorization is done higher, on IIRC layer 7, https should IIRC be on layer 6.

Usually you log in and receive a cookie that contains a jwt token which is used for your browser to reantuenticate when calling the site.

And if you just want to access a site - a single application or port you can use ssh tunneling.

I am exchanging cash money for steam virtual money and the transaction between Steam and the retailer that gets the cash should be done with a business to business wire transfer done via bank to bank transfer done via one of several payment systems that have nothing to do with credit card companies.

Like SEPA.

I own a small business, I literally have to transfer money via bank to bamk transfer that utilizes that system or one of several others like RINGS and I think I could do it via SWIFT.
These systems are interbank, they should not touch anything from Visa or Mastercard.
This is going off-topic into a number of Rule-8-sensitive issues.

Let's keep it specifically on the topic of anti-NSFW policies, and not go off too much into florid imaginings about how the future is terrible.
Are technical discussions of VPNs proxies and etc permitted?

...the current discussion is about how all are doing something in a patchwork of purityrannical bullshit. It happening planetarily is literally the Thread Topic. There also have been movements to make VPNs Illegal for non-business use specifically to prevent getting around them.

Also heard over on SV's War on Porn Thread someone bring up months back the Idea of VPN companies trying to help push these Censorship Laws for profit. Certain sounds like the kind of thing would happen in the US. Certainly is something that has, repeatedly, happened in the US. No clue if similar has done similar in other countries. So wouldn't be surprised if they do something like that eventually.

The goal is also for control and self-censorship. If they can push this back into the shadows and make it required by Law they stay in the shadows? They see that as an absolute win.

Funny enough you can Age Gate the Internet but it requires parents to actually parent their kids and for the devices being sold to come with such gating pre-installed. Some States in the US actually require all phones bought in them to come with such things necessitating the user age put in to be able to connect to the Internet. Also remember back when I was younger my mother using a program for our computer. Not to stop me from going to certain Websites but because of it having a clock and uninstalled it because it stopped me from going to Websites like Newgrounds.

Rolling your own VPN is actually extremely easy, all you need is some basic networking and Linux knowledge and a VPS or another Linux host you can ssh into.
Some cheap ass VPSes in Mexico for example go for as low as 4$ a month and you get the added benefit of having full control and less danger of the VPN company logging your IP traffic.
Of course you might need to cough up more $$$ for traffic.

Yeah the self-censorship and control governments get is probably the biggest problem. People might find it fine while their guy is in power, but we have elections and someone you don't want to have have access to all that data will get there grabby little hands on it.

And all in the name of helping children...and like I said it won't. People will just visit sites that don't give a damn.

I would like something to be done about kids viewing porn but this isn't it.

I've always thought the idea of using a VPS for a VPN odd. In a way it makes sense business customers expect more privacy, but still I find hard to to believe they won't log your every connection. If only to make sure they don't get in trouble or comply with some random law.

With reputable VPN in a privacy friendly jurisdiction like proton or mullvad you can at least breath somewhat easy, I'm not so sure about VPS though. Their reputations don't hinge on being privacy friendly ether.
