  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Anyone know what the rules are for posting a story that belongs to someone else, but you are unable to get in touch with them to ask permission to upload their story?

Are you allowed to post the story as long as you credit them and take it down if they get in touch and ask you to?

Cause I found a really old, really good, completed HP fanfic that has basically been removed from the internet, and the author hasn't been seen since 2009.

You can post links to it... but you can't repost stories without the writer's permission.

Also https://web.archive.org/ is a valid thing to look at things lost on the internet if you have access to the URLs.

I have the story downloaded, so was wondering if I could post it.
But I can't get get in touch with him to ask, since I don't know if he is using a new online handle.

The story has been scrubbed from damn near everywhere.

If someone's gone to that much effort, it was probably for a reason.

On top of that, there are legal issues these days with posting a story even if you credit it. Actually, especially if you credit it.

Usernames are one of the things that qualify as "personal data" under the EU GDPR's right to be forgotten. While I don't think it would technically be illegal, it's not worth the potential shitstorm.

I however, have no connection whatsoever to this site's staff and what they say, goes.

It was a Fanfiction, just to be clear.
I am not asking to post a story that is/has/will be for sale.
It is just an old Harry Potter fic that I read ten years ago, and have been trying to find to reread for about six months.
It was removed for some reason I am unaware of from the sites it was on and I found a downloaded copy of it on one of my old hard drives.

Was hoping to edit some spelling errors in it and then post the story as it is.
If I can't upload it, then that's fine.

Just figured I would ask if there was a rule against it.

OH!
The story is called Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffindor.
Written by cloneserpents. If anyone knows who he is.

There is another HP story with the same name on A03, but that is a different story and nowhere close to as good.
