I've noticed recently that there's been a few fanfic authors who have rebranded their fanfiction as original works for public sale.

Most notably at the moment is a novel called "Alchemised" that is a rewrite by the same author of a Hermione/Draco fanfiction called "Manacled."

The practice isn't necessarily new, both "50 shades of Grey" and the "Mortal Instruments" series were originally fanfictions of Twilight and Harry Potter respectively and both went on to find their own success.

That said, the two series have very little in common with their source material which isn't necessarily the case with all instances of this happening.

I'm curious as to what peoples opinions are on the matter and what you think the possible ramifications the practice could have on fanfiction as a whole.
