• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Twitter Account

Yeah I was coming here to suggest just this lol

That was a long freaking outage, and it's not the first morning I've tried checking on the forums early only for the site to be down.

Yeah, a twitter account or some other social media platform to distribute news about crashes, server updates or similar stuff would be nice - third time in three days that the forum is inaccessible and I still have no idea why.

Speaking of, anybody know anything? What's happening lately that QQ is down that often?

A 500-level error tends to be pretty broad in possible causes. Could be excessive traffic, perhaps? I don't think there's any AO3-type cyber targeting of QQ though, and I don't think the user base is large enough to stress the server.

I'd like to suggest that the forum gets a Twitter/Fediverse account, so we can get updates next time the site goes down for half a day.

My immediate whimsical thought is picturing a Mastodon instance for the whole family of forums - QQ, SB and SV all sharing a social media environment.

... I'm not sure if it would end in fire, in hilarity or in hilarity and then in fire. Or actually work, but what are the odds of that happening anyway?

There are a few "is this site down for everyone, or just me?" type services out there. You can find them if you do a web search. Of course, that only tells you whether the site is down for everyone, it doesn't provide any avenue for communicating about "why" or "when do we expect it back up". If you're already in the IRC channel, that would work -- but I don't use the IRC channel, so the only way I know to get to the IRC channel is via the website, which doesn't help.

There has reportedly been some work on upgrading the server recently, in preparation for the XF2 update. That work could be related.

I don't think the user base is large enough to stress the server.
As I recall, the server upgrade work was needed to increase the available disk space to be able to install XF2. Which suggests to me that the server isn't stressed in normal operations, but anything beyond normal operations would stress it.
