• The site has now migrated to Xenforo 2. If you see any issues with the forum operation, please post them in the feedback thread.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Unwanted user title

I have an user title. I did not choose to have an usertitle. I also can't see who thought it funny to give me one.

I want to have no user title but setting custom user title to "" just causes my unwanted user title to reappear.

This is either a bug or harassment.

Nope, working as intended. It's called the user title ladder, as pointed out in a recent announcement, a standard feature of Xenforo. The forum software will display certain titles according to your post count, unless you choose a custom title. This was already happening before, it's where the titles of Member, New Member, etc came from.

Harassment would be setting the standard to "POKED BY ADMIN STAFF" as SB did. As LG said, this isn't QQ doing something, it's just the way XenForo's set up.

It might be nice to have spaces count as a nonstandard title, though (I just tested; the standard comes back if your custom title is spaces only). Don't know whether that's feasible.

To be fair, WHAT the software sets the titles to is my doing.

It's vaguely possible that you could enter an HTML non-breaking space, or one of the Unicode nonstandard space characters, and not have the default title show up. I have not tested this.

I know that on SB it was (is?) possible for someone else to alter your user title (through payment?) and as the user title wasn't the usual bland "New member", "Member", "Regular" stuff and SB, SV and QQ forums share alot of technical (to me it seems so) capabilities...

Yeah, no. As far as I'm aware this just isn't true. No user can alter somebody else' user title.

I dimly recall shenanigans involving that but those were before the move to xenforo at least (mebbe earlier even). Or possibly I'm on a entirely wrong track and mixing something awful 'features' (again, from years back) into the mix.

Admins can change your title, but we can do just about anything to your account if we needed to.

You're thinking of the wrong forum, if I remember correctly this is/was a feature on the Something Awful forums.

So since I'm a noob here, how do you create a custom title for yourself?

Reaperman did mess with quite a few people's usernames, avatars, username colours, signatures and IIRC user titles over the years. I remember Biohazard, foamy, and several instances for Lord Iysnic (now known as Lord Squishy, because the username override was never rescinded and after a few years the name stuck). Never through money; more like being one of, or having the ear of, the admins.

Which is more of a harmless practical joke than anything else. Now if there was a cost to having it fixed it would be a bit more annoying and promote incredible amounts of dickery among the userbase.

Well I was wondering what the fuck is wrong with the system.

Looks like the pervert staffs not beating around the bush. :p
