What are your most hated fanfic tropes

Thanks, it's nice to learn something curious from time to time.

I knew about the non-sexual meaning of rape, but always thought that's commonly accepted as a secondary, a niche meaning. A metaphor, a simile to get emotional weight across - but now I know that some treat it literally.

I'm bit miffed about it because we have different words for a reason, but now I will be less confused what people are talking about.

Not sure if I've said this or not but when authors nerf their MC. Like, I read a fic where the MC was supposed to be a kage level fighter but was losing to genin ninjas. Like wtf? Another thing I hate is when the MC is some overly pure and anti-sex person who shames others for having sex while saying that they can totally get someone to sleep with but won't because or whatever reason. The worst offenders of this are also always in more sexual worlds like dxd and I kid you not, ONE IN FUCKING KUROINU!!!

This, but with Superman and Goku in crossovers. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone turn Goku from someone who can destroy planets, to for some reason struggling with characters like Ruby Rose, Senran Kagura characters, and even once, Albedo from Overlord.

A single serious punch from Goku would atomize all of them instantly. Yet you expect me to think Goku would struggle with Albedo? Her and all her worn equipment are getting atomized by goku breathing a little too hard in her general direction.

True.

Why are you even here if you hate it so much.

You've clearly consumed enough of the material to get the basic facts like who everybody is and what the setting is about.

So why be so fixated on trying be the anti-sex man?

If it were Goku going easy on them because he sense their power level, is one thing.

But a lot of the time, they write it like Goku is struggling. Unless you're using hacks, Goku shouldn't be struggling.

Even if they do have hacks, a high enough difference in power levels would nullify it.

A lot of anti fans do this it's genuinely pathetic but anyone remember the ankoman shit every one of those guy's read his work knew everything to feel disgust about their favorite self insert being cucked and made a whole group of fanfiction about torturing women it was the most incel shit ever and it's hilarious how pathetic it actually made them look

The greatest irony of that was the revival of FGO fics.

Everybody stopped trying to adapt the main story and chose to write stomp fics about Chaldea in crossovers.

Yeah, I don't mind when it's written/explained as holding back, but when he's struggling against characters where there is no ambiguity that's hes far beyond them, it's a rough read.

On a side note, there's thanks to DBS an in universe way to get powerful fast. The dragon balls. Sure it feels wishy washy but it is cannon compliant. Magicas well.

Just make a wish of something like "Dragon, grant me as much power as i can get without removing my lifespan," then train from there.

Also, DB's magic side is super unexplored so there's a lot to work with.

And they where all trash and most of them still where about ankoman
But it still needed Ankoman to have been created. Nobody gave a shit about writing FGO until Ankoman.

Giving them buffs like magic or super technology makes the idea of Goku struggling less painful to read.

It gives him enough respect that they need external aid and unconventional warfare to put up a fair fight.

You just put words to a thought I wasn't able to completely put to words.

Buff the other side reasonably/cannon compliantly instead of nerfing. I feel like readers are for more willing to suspend their disbelief if said powerup at least makes sense, Ie: Instead of making Goku struggle against a weak character, perhaps have the character wish to gain a baseline level of power and train for several years offscreen or on screen.

I'd be a lot more willing to believe that beginning of Z Goku might have a semi fair fight with Albedo after her wishing on the dragonballs to remove her level cap+6 years of training with whoever instead of goku genuinely struggling with her normally. But I have a high tolerance for author fiat. Results may vary.

Need I remind you android 17 with 10 years of training on his little island with the cell jrs went from Z Goku level to being able to fight a semi serious Jiren?

I remember this was reaching wattpad bro😭

Theres a fic there where the MC gets cucked and then fucking DIES (I can't remember how he died) then he gets some powers and becomes a servant(or something like mash I think, I'm not rereading that to find out) and clears out a singularity before seeing the servants that cucked him and has mental breakdown(I'm talking crying crocodile tears and threatening to off himself too)

Needless to say after reading a decent fic about the MC falling in love with the ring girl I was done with wattpad

that era made me like NTR

My most hated trope is not just in fics, but in general as well. It's the one where people think it is a good idea to insult, threaten or talk down to the MC, even if said MC is fully capable of giving them a painful, messy death, and the only thing stopping that from happening is being protected by the plot.

The ones on here, specifically for the anti Ankoman shit, are treated as a chat room. Like over 5k replies and shit, with barely 10k words of story. You see the shit ton of replies, and think decent chance it's a good popular fic. But no, it's just some losers circle jerking.

It's wild how common fiction has neutered protagonists. Like, a lot of the time, these little shits mouthing of, are causing hella problems, and end up causing entire arcs of bad shit the mc could have dealt with easily by depositing their fist in his face. But no for some reason, while everyone else around them is allowed to use violence to solve their problems or cause them, the mc's always get held to a higher standard.

Honestly can't stand the trope of an mc having to be held to a higher standard, and humbled quickly if they ever acting a bit cocky or arrogant. One that always stands out to me is in the Pokemon Anime. During the Hoenn anime, Ash got a bit boastful and cocky, right after beating Norman. Now Norman in the anime is very different from the games. Specifically in the anime, Norman is being considered for the Elite Four. He's a big deal, and Petalburg City as a whole, pretty much worships him. So much so, the towns people legit fucking jumped Ash and he had to battle his way through hundreds of them one after the other just to get them to buzz of. So Ash beats Norman, and he's a kid, he's accomplished quite a big thing here. A little boasting at that point is earned even.

What does the series do? It brings in Drake, the strongest Hoenn Elite Four member, to crush Ash in a battle and humble him. Literally the episode after they leave Petalburg behind.

But then say, you get Misty. Putting aside her thievery of Togepi. She also tried to steal Totodile. The pokeball Totodile was caught in, was clearly Ash's since he could send the ball away if he wanted and it was registered to him. But cuz Misty wanted Totodile, she basically conned Ash into a battle with Totodile on the line. Then Misty uses Togepi in the battle, and guilts Pikachu into forfeiting. The same way she basically did with the gym battle back during season 1. And even though Ash was already winning the battle anyway even without Pikachu, right up to the very end of the series she talks down to him, and lies about Ash being given her badge out of pity. And beyond even that, the shit she tried with Totodile, she did again when Ash caught a Clauncher at the end of the anime. Only this time she did win and got to keep the Clauncher. And dozens of other shit she pulled over the entirety of the anime, but she's never punished for that. Nor any of the other characters for horrible shit they do, or brag about out.

And it's prevalent through a ton of series, and even fanfic stories. That, the mc needs to be humbled for the slightest boasting or arrogance.

Tell me about it, it's fucking ridiculous. It's like 'why the *hell* do you think that is any way a good idea?' I swear, if you could kneecap someone in a game for doing it, you better believe I will go through with it.

The same logic applies to the brain-dead chucklefucks who think it is a good idea to threaten or intimidate their sister or daughter's boyfriend. Again in any media, not just fanfics. As far as I'm concerned, anybody who does that shit is either mentally disturbed or wants to fuck whoever they are trying to 'protect' and won't admit it.

There's a reason ash was always spiteful and mean to Misty Before they defanged him ash early on took any chance he could to shit on misty. And it was funny as fuck.

While I'm not a fan of overpowered MC's (I like to read the heroes getting strong), I would like to see more fics where the MC isn't so much arogant and boastful as they are just stating facts.

Something like.
MC: "I'm going to break you."
Villain: "That arrogance is going to get you killed."
MC: "It's not arrogance, it's just a rule of reality."

I don't know if this is a trope, but it's something that annoys me when I'm following a story. If an author writes a "what if this noncanon crossover was with another universe, but I'm going to threadmark it like it's a part of the main story." I can forgive it once or twice, but the last time I dropped a story because of this, the author had written closer to ten alternate crossover chapters all threadmarked as a part of the main story. Why not just make another thread? Or put it somewhere else that's not a part of the main story that I'm here for?

It's annoying to get excited for another chapter only to see Terrance and Phillip non reveal episode.
