With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Paul is blessed by Eris, the goddess of chaos. And Discord is sorta ok working with graven. I guess chaos beinf automatically equivalent to evil or entropy are setting specific.
Chaos is the ultimate Eldritch being in Sailor Moon...

It's DC equilivant would be The Great Darkness, an existence so far above everything else in existence that there is nothing above it outside of The Source.

Singularity beam.

In a stretched out second I see her eyes widen a little before she draws her right hand across her face and… Batters the graviton beam away. Great, dark energy can do just about anything, and she's got a planet's worth to work with. Or maybe it's a magic thing, don't know.
Real talk, does the singularity beam ever work ? You'd think that firing a small black hole at people would be at least somewhat effective, except that I struggle to remember a single time when it wasn't countered or outright ignored.

Thank you, corrected.

Discord wasted an episode mostly just to mock Grayven.

I think it worked against the Reach a couple of times.

Yup, and Metalia is an incarnation of Chaos, basically a lesser piece of it that ended up on Earth for whatever reason, presumably sent there to target Sailor Moon in an attempt to nip that future threat in the bud.

The singularity beam suffers from the narrative issue of being an instant-win if it ever works, with very little room for anything less. So if it works then the fight is just instantly over which is unsatisfying, so it usually doesn't work.

Singularity Beam is OL's "Spirit Bomb".
It sits right at the farthest edge of the fourth logarithmic of power levels.

Fucked the sea Titan physical form real good, but didn't stop it, so I dunno where would stand in your scale.

I'm waiting for the moment where at least two Paul's get to team up and get along. Have a nice discussion and share ideas…. Or just hate each other for petty reasons…..

Out of curiosity I decided to look into all the previous firings of the beam singularity projector and categorise them by whether they succeeded, failed, or partly succeeded in severely injuring the target. I counted instances in which it was fired multiple times against the same target, or on multiple targets that were similar (such as in fleet battles) as one instance. I do not count instances where a singularity projector is considered as an option but decided against.

Assuming I haven't missed any, it has been used 22 times. There were 10 successes, 10 failures, and 2 partial successes, for approximately 45.5% successes, 45.5% failures, and 9.1% partial successes.

This would seem to indicate that the singularity projector actually has a fairly high success rate. However, it's important to note that the success rate changes drastically if we separate the data by whether or not the target was humanoid.

14 uses (approx. 63.6%) were against humanoid targets, and there were 2 successes (14.3%), 10 failures (71.4%), and 2 partial successes (14.3%).
8 uses (approx. 36.4%) were against spacecraft or stations, and 100% of these uses were successful.

Notably, both of the successes against humanoids were when it was fired at nameless elves (a sheeda warrior, and a bunch of Laundry Files elven knights).

For a list of every instance I counted, see below.

Oceanus: Partial Success. It injured/stunned him, seemingly giving Poseidon an opening to attack. First ever use. It was previously considered against the Huntsman, but was deemed to cost too much power.

Mordru: Failure. No effect due to magic.

Oh El: Failure. Dodged. Fired by the First Citadelian. I'd forgotten this fight.

Renegade: Partial Success. It punched a hole through his torso, but didn't seem to significantly impede his ability to fight. Fired by the First Citadelian. Not explicitly a beam singularity from what I could tell, but with it being a black beam fired by a telekine who manipulates space and creates black holes, I imagine it is essentially the same thing.

First Citadelian (boosted by Captain Comet): Failure. No effect due to telekinetic spatial manipulation.

Gravity disruptor in Ranx: Success.

Vandal Savage: Failure. No effect due to temporal displacement. May have caused the Toba catastrophe in that timeline.

Devlos Ungol: Failure. No effect due to Anti-Monitor-derived armour.

Devlos Ungol's research station: Success. Cut the station in half to destroy the transition jammer.

Krona: Failure. No effect due to power ring spatial manipulation?

Sheeda warrior on Witchworld: Success.

Juluuni Reach fleet: Success.

Reach Scarab: Failure. Deflected by spatial defences.

Reach ships: Success.

Grayven: Failure. Intercepted by Omega beam.

Dominator capital ship: Success.

Reach dreadnought: Success.

Laundry Files elves: Success.

Laundry Files elf artillery palanquin: Failure. Deflected by magic.

Reach station: Success.

Apophis' fleet: Success.

Queen Metalia: Failure. Deflected by magic/dark energy.

Well there was the big crossover where OL worked with Time Trapaul.

A bit opposite of what you suggest but you randomly got me thinking about Grayven meting Tangseid. Doubt they'd get along.

That's only when Sailor Moon is still alive to bring them back.
I'm not familiar with the series but I do remember the Silver Crystal being mentioned in this story. While I also remember you saying that only Usagi can truly use it to its fullest extent as a deus ex machina, is it truly impossible for it to help bring them back in this circumstance? Is this universe doomed to be grimdark forever now?
