    • After some poking and prodding, this is being driven by setting the CSS property box-sizing to border-box, some testing has shown that either not setting that property, or setting it to content-box resolves this issue. I'm not seeing anything wrong on the page after making this change, but I'm not doing any real rigorous testing nor am I really aware of the a11y implications of this change.

    You've turned the default font size down. This only affects text that uses the default sized font.
     
    Basically this should be the fix, I think. But for me it was with all styles, not just blackened. In
    * {
    box-sizing: border-box
    } change the border-box to content-box or something else. Currently the spacing is out of place with bigger font sizes, with texts being on top of each other.
