Genin teams usually start off doing D-rank missions, which are...paid chores. At least in canon Konoha. With some experience in teamwork taught by working on those glorified chores, they graduate to doing C-ranks, where there's some danger, but generally no risk of fighting enemy ninja. B ranks, like we're doing, are typically for jounin or groups of chuunin.
