Questionable Questing

They'll gladly chase humans around with hounds and have a blast watching them get eated and beg to stay alive. But on the other hand if a human shows up at their door, the fae will gladly sit them down, offer them food, clothes, and shelter for the night because you should always treat a guest to the best of your ability.

Inhuman cruelty and emotions controlled and managed with a strict system of honor and grudges.

Bright Fae lean more towards honor while Dark Fae the emotions? And go wild with the fantasy magic, mystical fire and arcane thunder and dark powers. A trouble I often have with Fae is blue and orange morality by many writers means being a dick. It's not blue and orange, its just evil dickery. Having a thing where say a Dark Fae forms friends by either making them slaves or being a slave.

Need inspirations for the Fae and magic and fantasy elements, things to draw on. I'm thinking of things like the Riders of Eragon where you have sword wielding mages. Princes instead of wizards.

I kind of actually imagine them a little bit like the Vulcan from star trek, where the reason they are so autistic all the time is because they have such strong emotions its the only way for them to control them. Except instead of getting obsessed with science and learning Fae got obssessed with art and culture.

Each fae will gladly show off their castles formed over hundreds of years filled with thousands and thousand of paintings and sculptures. Of all these different creations and their very magic is centered around painting what you want and forcing it into the real world. or singing and using the emotions they create to change the weather or destory something.

Songs as magic is very Tolkien and I like. So you have the bright and dark Fae divided by artistic movement. Dark Fae violent and lewd and obscene, vile and powerful passions.
Bright Fae their art is majestic, empowering of self control

And they even turn their warfare into art. Armour becomes as beautiful and perfect as possible. Duels become commonplace to settle disputes and over time become so advanced they look almost like ritualistic dances. Banner's hold great spirtual meaning and often have spells woven into them so the flap of a flag not only raises spirts but has different effects on your army or you enemies depending on the one you use.

So grissly and mean savage art vs refined and elegant art?

What I'm thinking the divide between light and dark fae is, that the light fae choice the path of perfection. they want their art and their music to look as beautiful as possible. To constantly chases that never ending high of improvement and to reject and destory anything dark or negative in the proccess.

While Dark fae embrace the imperfections. Their art is geared to be realistic and flawed. They do the Japanese idea of wabi sabi where if a wood has a break or imperfection then you incoporate that into your art. They like dark colors instead of bright rainbows, they like violence and blood. They are more down to earth but they are also a lot more unpredictable .

And I'm really proud of myself for turning the light and dark fae conflict into a metaphor on different art schools. lol

So a art that embraces its own corrupted state vs the Bright Fae's desire for the immaculate. And that is reflected in the nerd tastes of the protag compared to his brother, a brother more into classical music and possibly a jock, play up those tropes to examine

Funny enough I've done the art as magic idea before one time for like sci-fi mech soul armor knights. Didn't get far but was a thought. And I've done the Fae art thing too. It's a neat way of tapping into them as living fantasy paintings and their connection to song

Thought, the dark Fae queen shows itself to the protag in drawings he does or short stories he writes. Or a song he designs. And same for the brother and sister getting Bright Fae out of their art.

That's a pretty cool idea. I was just going to have her visit his dreams and teach him the beginnings of painting magic by teaching him how to lucid dream.

Make it connect to their creativity. What they draw or write or listen to for songs. A mysterious YouTube channel with powerful dark metal folk music and a avatar icon for it that our MC swears is looking at him with a smile
