The SS was supposed to be the new German army, something to replace the old one entirely, and even more ambitiously was supposed to be an army made up off all Aryan man throughout Europe and wouldn't just be loyal toward Germany. But thinking realistically, Hitler needed those Prussia general's on his side if he wanted to take power and was willing to compromise with them. Ernst wasn't.

What's even more interesting to me is that you take away the murder plots and the politics, and you have a story of a man rising to power having to sacrifices his past friendships and ambitions to get ahead. I don't know, it just sounds so normal in a way, like this was the story of a guy trying to become the CEO of a company instead of the leader of a country and starter of WW2.

Joel and Ellie really is a pretty fun pairing. I'm shocked that more fic's don't use that premise. Hell, now that I think about it, that was probably part of the reason they made Ellie gay to begin with because she certainly wasn't when they first wrote her back in 2013.
