Questionable Questing

But after getting the shit kicked out of her, that's when she starts bonding with them as a family. Since the reason she was lashing out to begin with is because her family favored her sister of her, yet here they treat her and her sister absolutely the same. In her eyes Omniman is so powerful he doesn't care about the little power plays and politics she grew up with her whole life.
Andy333
Andy333
That's what Blackfire wants. To be so powerful she doesn't have to care about what other people think. To be so powerful she can just ignore her parents and her sister/ Not the healthiest mind set, but she's a teenage girl and it's what acts as the thaw which allows Debbie and Nolan to connect with her. Debbie teaches her about earth and by extension how to be a normal teenager and not just a warrior princess.

How does she bond with Mark and start getting very attached to him?
Andy333
Andy333
While also acting as her only mother figure by being one of the first people to validate that yes what Blackfire went through was not fair and she shouldn't have to apologize to her family. They created this whole situation by shunning her. While Nolan in-between teaching her how to fight and use every ounce of her powers to their limits, starts teaching her strategy and politics.
Andy333
Andy333
And that winning the fight and being able to walk away from it once it's over is just as important as beating the other guy. But as for Mark and hers relationship. It starts out pretty tense. Blackfire is jealous of his family and insecure about her place in it, so she pranks him and lashes out at him. While Mark is jealous of her powers and how they allow her to connect with his dad in a way he can't.
Andy333

But what allows it to transition into something less angry, is the two love a good challenge. They love getting pushback and fighting, and the rest of the family is always loving and supportive so they are kind of stuck with each other. So the challenges and pranks start out malicious and then over time become a game. A competition nobody wins because the point is fighting for it anyway.

Prank bullying turning into shared past time. How does Blackfire mellow out into what is start of story vs how she started?
Andy333
Andy333
Having a loving family, who also have the power and personality to call her out on her shit and see through any manipulative bullshit she tries, as well as soon being joined by two just as damaged "sisters" to trauma bond with as all three of them share stories and despise their father's together.
Andy333
Andy333
Of course the fact Mark, Debbie, and Nolan are all three also morally flexible enough to subtly encourage getting revenge, just doing it in a smart and professional way instead that leaves your enemy's dead and you looking completely innocent, doesn't hurt either. Which means in a kind of ironic sort of way they were the best and worst family she could've had.

And in turn love Omiman as a true father and Debbie as super mom
Andy333
Andy333
They were powerful enough to ignore her threats, smart enough to understand her problems, empathetic enough to help her through them, then love her, and yet they are also cruel enough to encourage her worst impulses and encourage a us versus everyone else mindset.

How does Debbie at start justify revenge when she is morally still consciously if not subconsciously a decent suburban American wife and mom
Andy333
Andy333
Clash of culture. Blackfire comes from a alien planet ruled by great clans and monarchy system, where due to the almost inhospitable wildlife and the ongoing war with a slaving empire nearby with more advanced technology they don't have the resources or time to waste with what's seen a weak or disabled ruler.
Andy333
Andy333
It's not that her parents don't love her, it's just that the whole absolute monarchy thing is something very new and was forced onto the planet to better organize the war effort. If the planet gets a weak ruler now the previous alliance is going to splinter apart, starting a civil war and allowing the Invaders to win. They need a strong powerful warrior to lead their armies.

So her parents aren't super awful but she still hurts
Andy333
Andy333
And unfortunately not only is Blackfire pretty much disabled, needing cybernetic upgrades to even stand a chance against her sister, Starfire is also a once in a lifetime warrior that has the potential to surpass her parents. In their parents eyes, Starfire is the one who needs to be heir and that means spending more time training her for that role, time they can't waste on Blackfire.
Andy333
Andy333
Now from their viewpoint it makes perfect sense. It's cruel and painful for everyone involved, but the good of the kingdom and it's future is at stake here. But from Debbie's perspective, the minute their child got sick they threw her away and replaced her with a shiny and new kid as fast as they could. Like you said decent suburban moms not going to understand the brutality or desperation of an interplanetary war.

Blackfire has cybernetics?
Andy333
Andy333
Yep, I'm using the original Teen Titans cartoon concept for this. Reach, the slaving empire I was talking about, made a deal with her that if she became their puppet leader and help destroy the royal family she would rule in their name and would be given cybernetic upgrades to make her powerful.
Andy333
Andy333
Of course they betrayed her and sold her into slavery right beside her sister since they see the two as animals, but they did give her the upgrades in the end hoping that would make her more valuable. They intended to sell her as a breeder/bodyguard to ironically the Viltrum who were at the time experimenting and trying to see if Tamerian and Viltrum Strength could mix.
