[X] Ask him more questions about the contents.
-[X] Filibuster. Act really interested. Babble. What is cider? What's in it? Where did he get it? Does he go there often? Is it near where he lives? What's it like there? Does his family live there too? What are they like? Why is his face turning red? Is he really going to get mad at an inquisitive little girl? Well if he's going to be mean about it maybe you don't want his present after all.

Dinner has already been underway for a decent length of time. Maybe you can just talk to him and stall for time until it's over. It's not very hard. You are naturally curious, so your interest isn't entirely feigned.

You tap a finger to your lips, your face screwed up in concentration. "What's cider?"

He smiles genially at you, taking your question at face value and using the opportunity to extoll its virtues. "Why, you've never had cider? It's a deliciously sweet beverage made from apple juice, guaranteed to whet your thirst. This particular sample has aged magnificently; it improves the flavor, you know. Go on, try some."

You take care not to let your eyes stray to the glass, keeping your gaze squarely on the man himself. You won't let him get any opening to hand you the glass. You think up another question instantly. "Where'd you get it?"

"Only from the finest apple farms on the western coasts. Wouldn't you like to have a sip?"

He proffers the drink to you again, but you answer again as soon as he finishes speaking. "Is that far?"

You can tell his patience is starting to wear thin. "Quite far. It would be weeks to travel even on dragonback. Which is why this is a rare chance."

"Do you live near there? Is that where you got it?"

The conversation continues in this vein, with you railroading the conversation into further inquiries, and the man trying vainly to redirect the topic back to the matter at hand. You make sure not to talk over him; that's hardly proper noble manners, but conversely he also cannot simply tell you to shut up and drink it without calling all sorts of attention to himself.

You're starting to run out of questions when you're rescued by your mother. "Charlotte, it's time to open presents."

She turns to your conversation partner, wearing a smile that doesn't reach her eyes. "Thank you for occupying her. She can be a real handful."

His gaze switches to your mother briefly and then back to you.

"Bye, mister." You curtsy elegantly, looking at him expectantly.

His eyes narrow at you, his joyful facade gone without a trace. "Tch." He clicks his tongue in dismay and stalks off without a word.

"Oh my, how rude." Your mother has a smile hidden behind her hand. She leads you over to where your gifts are stacked.

You didn't get anything all that exciting. Your wardrobe expands, and your kittens have new toys to play with, but there was nothing that was particularly interesting. Your party ends without further incident, and you cement your reputation among the other nobles as a typical little girl. If only that extended to the servants and other commoners.

Trait increased: Innocence (False) C+

Your mother sighs heavily when you say farewell to the last guest, and collapses into a nearby chair, her hands covering her face. She looks at you through the gap between her fingers.

"You're such a smart girl. I thought I'd have to do something.. drastic."

That doesn't sound good at all. Did you just avoid something catastrophic? You take a seat next to her, crossing your legs and smoothing out your dress.

She looks sideways at you. "When did you become so devious?"

You tilt your head in curiosity. "What are you talking about?"

She looks confused for a moment, then laughs. "..Oh, you're good."

You smile widely at her, but it turns to a frown when you notice her suddenly troubled and thoughtful face.

"What's wrong, Mommy?"

She shakes her head negatively. "It's nothing."

You tug on her sleeves insistently. "I'm fine. You can tell me."

She has a complicated expression on her face. You can't tell what she's thinking. When she replies, her words are measured, leaving you to doubt their veracity. "..I'm just worried. Just because they failed this time doesn't mean they won't try again."

She laughs hollowly. "Ahh, I'm such a bad mother. Why am I the one being comforted?"

She leans over and hugs you close, murmuring, "We'll be fine.."

I would have voted
[X] Filibuster and get him to SHARE it... after all, it's not POLITE to drink alone... mister can have some of it first.

Yes! Our Fake childishness is our greatest weapon!

Nobody expects the spanish inquisition... But people expect the AUSTRALIAN INQUISITION EVEN LESS!

Dragons actually exist here, and we can work on scaling it up later.

Although if Biigoh's Fist of Doom is actually like the Addams family's thing, that could be interesting. If more likely to convince people we really are possessed.

Fist of Doom is canonical Irisviel technique... she uses a GIANT wire fist to PUNCH people into the ground like when Dark Illya is misbehaving in Prisma Illya.

[X] Practice 'healing' on yourself.

Mh, mh, mh. Kitty vote.

[X] Practice 'decay' on yourself.
[X] Practice your Nerve Control ability.

All three can pretty much be done at the same time. Nerve Control to filter out the pain from the "Decay" ability and then we need to "Heal" it back up afterwards anyways.

And now I'm reading through Prisma Illya to see how Iri is portrayed there..

Your 'decay' ability undoes any Nerve Control you've used, though you can use it after you injure yourself.

..and I'm going to rethink some of those choices. It would require too much handwavium to say you can't improve those three simultaneously. /editing

"Nyaaa."

Saber mews plaintively at you when you flinch from your self-inflicted wound. You erase the pain quickly, breathing out a sigh of relief when the pain goes away. You scratch under your kitty's chin as you speak.

"I'm fine, Saber. It doesn't hurt, see?" You hold up your arm. There is an impressive bruise swelling on your skin, but you can poke it without any reaction.

"Nya.." Saber doesn't seem impressed. Rather, her expression says, 'What the heck are you doing?" At least, that's what you'd like to think.

"Go play with your sisters. Shoo~" You scoot her away with your hands, shoving her toward where Lily and Nero are wrestling exuberantly so that you can practice without interruption.

Over the next few months, you improve the speed at which you can use your ability. You fall into the habit of healing minor wounds reflexively; indeed, sometimes you have to remember that people might find it off-putting if a cut disappears moments after you receive it. You've caught a mutter of 'simply unnatural..' from a servant or two who thought you couldn't hear.

Your abilities aren't unnatural to you. You've had them for so long you can't remember not being able to do these things. You can't really see how it's any different from the water magic the palace healers use. It seems that it's enough that it's different. It's depressing.

Skill improved: Healing and Decay E-

You wile away your free time taking a peek at the palace knights practicing out in the yard. They are generally consummate professionals, but even they are thrown off when you pay a visit. You can tell they're distracted the entire time you're watching.

You want to watch them practice naturally, so you instead start observing more discreetly. They have a regimen that they repeat without fail every single day to keep in shape and sharpen their skills. They all wield a wand shaped like a blade, and you can see that they keep their swordsmanship polished alongside their magic. You'd hoped you could see some flashy displays of magic, but the only magic they do seems to be a boring meditative type depending on their element. Some of them sit cross-legged on the earth, others weave gusts of air or sparks of flame into their sword-fighting routines, but nobody actually casts an impressive piece of magic like you saw your mother do with that homicidal servant. It's a little disappointing.

As if in answer to your disappointment, the people in the practice yard are younger than usual today. They're all boys, and you don't think any of them are older than 15 or 16. They're all wearing similar clothing; a uniform of some kind. They're a lot more rowdy than the usual crowd. One of them slings an arm around another boy, but it doesn't seem like a friendly gesture.

"Yo, David, why don't you match up against.. Victor?"

The boy, David, stiffens but doesn't say anything. A round of laughter echoes throughout the courtyard. The one who must be Victor replies, "..Don't bring me into this."

David recovers and shakes his head insistently. "No, it's fine."

The initial speaker looks at Victor in challenge. "Come on, man, don't tell me you're afraid. Look, even limp-dick wants to have a go." He points a finger backward at David, who glares at him.

Victor narrows his eyes at his companion. "Tch, fine."

The two square off about twenty feet apart in the designated sparring area. "Sorry," Victor says quietly. He brandishes his wand while his opponent simply stares back at him.

When the signal to begin comes, David places both palms on the ground, and a red light emits forth from beneath his outstretched hands, seeping into the ground. He grits out an incantation as he concentrates heavily. His opponent seems content to simply let him finish playing out his hand, waiting to see what his spell will do. "Scorched.. Earth!"

The ground all around Victor begins losing its coherence, causing him to lose his footing momentarily. A look of surprise flicks across his face, but he reacts quickly. Before he can sink into the melting earth, he supercharges an incredibly strong wall of air 360 degrees around himself. "..! Wind Shield!" The spells collide, the wind blasting right up against the molten dirt, trying to cool it before it can liquefy. A cloud of steam and dust rises up from the confrontation.

David is heavily panting, squinting heavily at the cloud kicked up by his spell. It looks like he's gambled everything on this single attack. His worried expression becomes dawning horror as Victor steps out, his uniform still unblemished.

"That's it..?" He brushes himself off. He actually seems disappointed, like he was expecting something more. His opponent is all but spent; it seems like he can barely stand, even though he's completely untouched.

One of the other boys chimes in rudely, "Haha, you really don't have any stamina.. what a faggot!"

Victor looks to the side in annoyance, but returns his gaze to the hunched figure of David, a look of pity gracing his features. He raises his wand and forms a cone of rushing wind. It looks like he wants to end this quickly.

"Wind Spear."

It slams into David, tossing him backward onto the ground in a heap. Even if he wasn't exhausted, the projectile was just too fast for him to dodge. It hit him square in the chest. Rather than piercing as the name would suggest, the spear simply projected a large amount of force. Victor bows customarily after the spar, and walks off quickly, not wanting to stay around.

The other boys laugh heartily at the fallen David. "Geez, how embarrasing!" "Pathetic.." "Later, loser." They start up an unrelated chat as they walk off, forgetting about their victim entirely.

"..." Victor casts one last glance at his defeated opponent before following his friends out.

David is left alone in the clearing. He slams a fist against the ground, muttering. "Damnit, damnit, damnit.."

He looks like he's in a great deal of pain. You can see a few tears streaming down his face.

What do you do? You've remained unobserved throughout this entire exchange.

Potential knight romance... meh.

Our traits are:
Curious E
Playful F-
Diligent F+
Innocence (False) C+
Contact Phobia E

[ ] Walk up to him, take off your gloves, and heal him.
=> Contact Phobia, so no.

[ ] Approach him cautiously, calling out to signal your presence. Ask if he wants healing.
=> We initiate contact, but this option is less powerful or emotional than option 1.

[ ] Follow after the ones who just left.
=> I am not sure about this one. We are Curious about them ?

[ ] This isn't something you should get involved in.
=> I think it's countered by Curious.

If your traits would prohibit a choice, I won't list it. You're young enough that your personality is still fairly malleable.

Still... meh. I find myself not interested into this choice.

[X] Follow after the ones who just left.
