A Second Chance (Reincarnation/Crossover)

Heh. I see that we just missed a chance to get a bit of a bond with Sheffield. How typical.

How long have we had the kittens? Shouldn't they be cats by now? We got them in year 9 part 1 and it's year 11 part 2 they should be fully grown or close to it by now.

[x] Figure our hypnotism (Short term memory wipe/control)(Irisiveil would have known this)

[x] Visit the training grounds, observe magical spars.

[X] Don't attend.

Last time we attended a major social function we were nearly poisoned.

The door is not closed there.

edit; Regarding Sheffield, the thing I was really trying to get across was her surprise that you don't appear to think like a stereotypical Halkegenian noble. As a former resident of Earth, it would stick out to her when someone actually cares about the little people- ignoring the peasantry is something that's practically instinctual for people like Louise/canon Tabitha/etc. It's hard to filter that through her sadistic, condescending bitch personality.

Just an oversight. They're cats.

You realize that even the option to favour the noble was referred to as a lie?
There's no way we could have sold that and attempting to lie to her and getting caught would have only resulted in seeming like we're trying to curry favour with her.

Anyways the outcome wasn't bad.
She doesn't exactly approve of our position, but she most likely just thinks we're a naive kid who doesn't really understand the scale of these things.
Which is actually pretty accurate.
And also why the option of 'learning from her' was opened up.

[X] Hang around Sheffield- what's an average day for her?

Regarding the summit:
[X] Attend.

Reinforcement is awesome, can be easily used at the same time as normal magic and as far as I recall has no real equivalent except something Karin came up wuth and a void spell.

Sheffield is a interesting and unique opportunity and hanging out wuth a villain is something different to the usual stuff.

Not attending is a boring and cowardly choice.

The only thing worse than going and getting poisoned is not going and our mother getting poisoned.
Apart from that, one choice for combat and one for political maneuvering.

BGM Set

[X] Continue practicing Reinforcement.
[X] Hang around Sheffield- what's an average day for her?
[X] Attend.

It's time for the first practical experiment- you're going to lift a chair as tall as you are with one hand. You channel prana into your arm, saturating it with magical power. There is no visible sign that anything at all has happened, but you can feel the parameters of your arm being strengthened. You let it keep going for a minute or so until you're satisfied, then walk over to the chair. You grasp it with your hand and pull. "Hiyah..!"

You almost fall backwards- you misjudged just how strong you are like this. You can hardly feel the weight.. it's as if you're holding a pillow, and not a chair that has to weigh at least ten pounds. Servants move these around all the time, but those guys do it for a living and have fully developed muscles- for you to be able to do this so effortlessly, it's a nice feeling. It helps you build confidence, being physically powerful.

You raise it high above your head, yelling out to your empty room. "Raaawr.. Charlotte SMASH!"

You move to throw it against the wall, but stop yourself. It's so easy! "Ehehe.." you giggle. You catch sight of Saber curled up on the bed with her head turned in your direction.

'What the heck are you doing?' Saber seems to ask.

You frown at her. "Stop looking at me like that. I'm not crazy."

'If you say so..' Saber appears to say.

You huff and put the chair down, letting the reinforcement fall off.

You practice on some other objects as well, trying to get a feel for the limits of your ability. It takes at least five seconds of concentration for you to channel prana into your limbs, but once you've done so it doesn't take much effort to maintain, just a slight drain on your reserves. The heaviest thing you managed to lift was a dining table- you're not sure how heavy it was, maybe forty or fifty pounds. You might be able to make it a little bit more efficient, but you're pretty close to the ceiling on how strong you can make yourself. You believe you can still improve the casting speed.

The next thing you'll work on is reinforcing your legs to run faster. You debated doing that first, but decided it that reinforcing your arms was simpler and less likely to backfire, even if it'll probably end up being less useful. As far as reinforcing objects is concerned, you can do that effortlessly, as long as it's not something ridiculously large. Reinforcing a door is about as big as you can go.

Asking around for Sheffield leads you to finding her sitting behind a desk, wearing reading glasses and glowering at a piece of paper in front of her. When she hears you approach, she turns her sour expression toward you.

"What." she says flatly.

You can't hide the surprise from showing on your face, so you voice your thoughts. "This is kind of unexpected.."

Sheffield raises an eyebrow at you, snorting. "Hu. What were you expecting?"

You feel a little embarrassed. Why does it always feel as if you act like an idiot every time you meet with Sheffield? "I don't know.. something a bit more.. exciting?"

Rather than mock you, she actually agrees with you. She glares at whatever she's reading as she speaks. "This is rather boring, isn't it?"

Deciding it's safe to continue, you ask her, "What are you doing, anyway?"

"My job. I'm a secretary. I do secretary things."

Looking up, she catches a glimpse at your disbelief. She scowls at you. "Is it really so perplexing?"

"Yes?" Your statement ends up sounding like a question.

Sheffield rolls her eyes at your response, then confirms your suspicions for you without you even having to ask. "Hmm.. well, you're right. This is just to kill time, and give me an excuse to hang around if someone has the stones to investigate my presence."

You'll never have a better segue to lead in to your question, so you plow straight ahead, your voice deceptively casual. "So.. what's your real job?"

Her lips quirk into a superior smirk, her eyes gliding back and forth on the paper she's perusing. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

You sigh involuntarily. Really, if you ask your mother or the servants to tell you something, they'll tell you straight up. In contrast, wringing anything out of Sheffield is like squeezing blood from a stone. It's kind of refreshing, in a sense- you don't want everything to come easily to you. That's a good way to become complacent.

Your eyes drift to a small rectangular shaped object resting on the side of Sheffield's desk. You walk over to it to get a closer look. It has a lattice of holes on the bottom half, a knob, and an antenna poking out of one end. "Wait.. this is..?"

Sheffield looks up sharply at you. "That? It's junk."

Rather than back off, your curiosity takes over. You turn the knob, powering the device on. ".." You sneak a glance at Sheffield, who's gone back to her work. You swallow your trepidation and test your hypothesis.

"Hellooo.." Your voice resounds in a muffled echo from a drawer on Sheffield's desk as you speak into the device. You jump in surprise- you hadn't expected that to work, for some reason.

"What are you doing?" Sheffield's voice is cutting, and she's risen from her chair to look fiercely at you. You take an involuntary step back, sweating a little. She's mad. She's definitely mad.

"U-umm.." you stutter.

"For future reference.." The temperature in the room seems to drop several degrees. She kneels down, grabbing your collar and looking straight into your eyes. You flinch at the contact and look desperately away, struggling in her grasp.

"I do not care who you are. You don't touch my things without permission. Are we clear?" She lets you go and you fall to the floor, panting. You shiver involuntarily from your position on the ground, looking squarely downward.

You hear Sheffield speaking above you. "That said.. well done. Most idiots wouldn't figure out how to use it."

"But remember. It's a funny little toy. Nothing more." You nod along with her words almost against your will, just to placate her.

You're going to have to get used to Sheffield's ruthlessness if you want to hang out with her more. She can be terrifying when she wants to be. You've uncovered something really strange, though. That was without a doubt a two-way radio- a walkie talkie. The technology here isn't nearly advanced enough to produce something like that. It wasn't powered magically, either- it was 100% mechanical, powered by batteries. Maybe that's why Sheffield was so angry- it's not like they have any way of replacing those when they run out of power. Even the miniscule amount you wasted by saying hello to yourself could end up being important.

It's definitely a clue. By itself, you can't deduce anything about Sheffield, but it is another piece of the puzzle illuminating the mystery surrounding her.

You're all prettied up for the summit. After you dismiss the servants who helped you get ready, you scrutinize your reflection in the mirror. Even as young as you are, your features are very striking- you're still the only person you know with such a dazzling shade of silver hair. It's not like greying hair on old people, either- it's literally otherworldly in its coloration. Coupled with your unnervingly crimson gaze, you make an impression on anyone you meet. You just barely have some traces of your parents' features in your face- enough that if someone thought about it, they could pin you as Gallian.

You're wearing a specially tailored white dress that will probably never see use outside of tonight's summit. You've known for years that you wear formal-wear extremely well- others can only wish they cut as fine a figure as you do. You have your trusty white satin gloves- they're already pretty elegant, so you don't need to do anything special there. You're conservative in your jewelry- a ring engraved with the Orleans crest and some mild earrings to complete your ensemble.

You practice your smile in the mirror; it's not quite the bright-eyed optimistic smile you sported just a few years ago, but it's still a cheerful smile that says you are a happy person enjoying your life. You know your smiles have a tendency to be infectious- even grumpy old nobles unwillingly have to put away their frowns when you greet them so brightly. Although you are sweet and kind in your speech and demeanor, you still maintain an air of elegance. It helps keep people at a distance- you're not sure you'd react well to people getting in your face or trying to hug you or something.

The summit takes place at the very building you reside in, so you simply wait in your room for your mother to come collect you. You've already skipped the boring parts- the reports on the state of the Kingdom and the assembly on important issues took place during the day. You might've liked to attend, but there's an age restriction on the attendees which prevented you from observing. It sounded really stupid to you when you heard it- you already attend a lot of similar functions, but the law is in place nonetheless.

She leads you to the entrance hall, where you can see a great many people still milling about as they slowly funnel into the reception area. You engage in some small talk with your mother as you wait around for your turn. Occasionally the herald will announce a particularly important noble's entrance. Usually it's followed by polite applause, but some nobles get a better reception than others.

You make a request to the herald to announce you and your mother separately. Generally you would come in together because of your age, but you want to make a splash here. Your mother looks questioningly at you, but she has to make her own entrance momentarily so she doesn't get a chance to say anything. When it finally comes around to your turn- royalty goes last, to draw more attention to their coming- you calm your nerves and ready yourself.

"Charlotte Hélène d'Orléans, daughter of the late Duke of Orleans, first in line to the throne of Gallia, presenting."

You emerge from the top of the stairs and gracefully make your way down, looking out into the many faces staring back at you without fear. Your lips are upturned in a small smile as you see the heads continuously turn in your direction. You nod at the herald as you pass him by and make your way over to where your mother is standing, looking at you with surprise. She smooths out her expression as you take her hand and glide into the reception hall proper.

The response is overwhelmingly positive. Some people even look confused- isn't the Princess a little girl? Who is this? One of their neighbors who's seen you before has to whisper in their ear that yes, that is in fact the late Duke's daughter. You radiate such presence that more than a few are awed into silence. When the traditional clapping erupts, it's very enthusiastic- the loudest you've heard yet. There isn't a single person not celebrating your arrival- though you're sure some are simply clapping because they'll look extremely rude if they don't, and they'll stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the genuine applause.

Skill improved: Royal Demeanor D

The King is the last to be announced, as befits the ruler of the nation. It's rather anticlimactic after your own entrance.. but that's not anything new; your uncle is always rather uninspiring. Something always manages to take the spotlight from him- today, it's you. Joseph looks ambivalent to the whole thing. Sheffield at his side is clad in a marvelously crafted dress, but she doesn't look any happier than he does. As soon as they're both formally introduced to the room at large, she goes off on her own somewhere.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, the nobles are moving to mingle with one another. What do you do?

[ ] There's a crowd of younger nobles you decide to approach. (read: 20ish, not teenagers)
[ ] There's a crowd of older nobles you decide to approach.
[ ] Let others come to you- you are the Princess here.
[ ] Just follow your mother's lead, introducing yourself as appropriate.
[ ] Sheffield is standing alone at a balcony looking unhappy. Commiserate with her over the extreme boredom this event is bringing you.
[ ] Something else. (Write-in.)

Regarding your entrance (+25 - Royal Demeanour E):

1-25: You make one mistake after another, culminating in falling flat on your face as you descend a flight of stairs.
26-50: You make a handful of mistakes that are embarrassingly smoothed over by your mother.
51-75: You appear at your mother's side, neither attracting nor detracting from the proceedings.
76-100: You walk with confidence and self-assurance. Your entrance is flawless.
101+: You dazzle the congregation with the grace and poise of a Queen, completely stealing the spotlight. Heads turn and impressed (and fearful) whispers spread amongst the nobility.

Hmm, I don't really like the fact that we're complaining about being bored at an event we wanted to come to. We haven't even done anything yet.

Also, this part seems a bit weird.

Votes locked, update soonish. I've seen other quests have the questers do the rolls, and I think I like that better.

Another two rolls are needed- 1d100+10 and 1d100+5. Can someone roll them for me?

One day there will be a vote for sleeping on top of double bacon. On that day I will not ninja you Pipeman.
