They're infighting during negotiations. I get the feeling that these two don't get along that well.<I am still your Emperor, Uncle,> the boy cut him off, then looked back to us. <There must be one stipulation.>
...now that I think about it, the Uncle will lose power within a decade unless the current Emperor dies under mysterious circumstances.
You can't leave an exponentially-growing enemy alone. I think they'd have decent chances if they stopped playing around and opened the fight with their planet-buster attacks. Of course, by then, the Empire would have time to analyse the Entities and mass-manufacture anti-Entity weapons. Given that the Empire would have mind-state backups of their citizens distributed across the galaxy, it would be difficult to permanently kill any of them. I think it would be a pretty even fight.... In 3,000 years, the next Entities will take a gander towards the Milky Way, see the multidimensional, galaxy spanning Confederation of Human States (lead by the Empire of Avalon, of course) and Nope right along to somewhere else.
Maybe that's what the cycle needs to prevent the entities from turning on each other: a common enemy.
