Title:

Type a large post, post it. Press Edit to change up some phrasing or fix a type, press save, changed not saved.
Started... some time this week, I think? I've noticed it more and more in the last couple of days.

Pretty annoying, given how often I edit my comments within minutes of posting them.

Edit: Testing.
Edit: Testing 2?
Edit: Testing 3

I posted OP and immediately tried to edit three times in a row. Only the first worked. Then I refreshed the page and did the same thing.
Looks like you get one edit per refresh?

Granted, I havn't tested it throughly, with a sample-size of nine attempts over three refreshes.

I've had it happen to me several times in the past few days too. The first time I noticed it, I also noticed that someone had added replies to the thread between when I started the edit and when I saved it, but other times there has been nothing happening when I edited a post and it still failed to save. I'm now noticing that many times, I'll have to edit/save 2-3 times in a row before it sticks. (at least I have the habit of copy/paste before post, so I'm not usually losing more than a little time and effort clicking through)

Copy-paste works, but you lose formatting, which is annoying on a long post.

I should note that it may not be a problem with the forum. It wasn't consistent when it was happening, and now that I fixed another problem I was having around the same time, I haven't noticed the problem with editing not being saved. Just to test, I'm posting this in several iterations, editing each in and saving incrementally.

*edit* welp, it wasn't that. I just had the failed save of an edit again.

I can't duplicate the issue on my end. My guess is that there's a network problem and the edit requests aren't going through.

I am also having this problem and it is exactly as OP detailed. I can edit once but then it auto deletes any changes i make like as if there is a forced delay between changes. It started being a problem for me at the same time as it did for OP.

Sound off:
What browsers have you tested this in?
Who here has tested this in more than one browser?

Edit 1: this is a test.
Edit 2: this is part of a series of tests.
Edit 3: this is only a test.
Edit 4: if this were not a test, this message would repeat over a series of posts.

Definitely noticed it in Chrome.

Edit: testing on mobile.

Edit 2: Found the same problem here with the Brave browser on mobile. It's Chrome under the hood, so this might be a chrome issue if it is browser specific.

Okay, I was unable to reproduce this above, using mobile Firefox on Android. Some possible causes:
  • Post wasn't big enough to trigger the problem (OP says it affects long posts);
  • Firefox isn't affected;
  • It's caused by network something-or-other between the user and the QQ servers, and that isn't there for me;
  • Nobody else posted while I was edit-testing (a potential factor mentioned above).
Edit for my future reference:
All four edits above happened after HypoSoc posted. Edits 1 and 2 were at the same time, and I refreshed between edits 2 and 3.

Copy-paste works, but you lose formatting, which is annoying on a long post.
To improve the work-around, you can flip into the bbcode editor and copy that. That will copy the codes that control the formatting at the same time.

Definitely noticed it in Chrome.

Where did you test it? By which I mean, did you test it in this thread, or somewhere else? Because I see exactly two edits in your post, is that correct?

Literally in this thread. Edit one to prime it. Edit 2 which did not work, and edit 3 which I labeled as edit 2 which did work after I refreshed the page.

I'm 80% certain it is chrome based.

I also said it effected the OP itself, which is short and sweet.
it's just most annoying when you make a huge post, then want to make a bunch of edits to it. #

I'm also using Brave though, so it might be a chrome issue.

Edit1
Edit 6
Edit11

Note: Edits 1-5 were all one-after-another. Then I refreshed. Edit six worked, edits 7-10 did not.
I refreshed again, this is edit 11.

Yeah, problem persists. You get one edit per refresh.
Using Brave/Chrome.

Edit: 12
One the plus-side, we now have a real work-around.
Refresh your page between edits.

Same issues with using threadmarks: 1 threadmark per refresh.

Hey alethiophile, what browser(s) did you test this in? In particular, if you already have a counterexample to the "sounds like this might be a chrome problem" hypothesis, I would like to know that specific fact.

I tested in Firefox, so it's consistent with that idea.

I don't have a Chrome immediately available, but I can try testing in that once I'm back at a machine that does.

I just edited in Opera and had nothing happen when I clicked submit.

EDIT:

It seems to happen when you try to edit multiple times without refreshing.

Hmm. Okay, let me test something real quick.

Edit 1: It started out with a test
Edit 2: how did it end up like this
Edit 3: it was only a test
Edit 4: it was only a test.

Edit 5:
Four edits, within two minutes of originally hitting post, with no refreshes. And they all show up for me. Still on Firefox on Android.

Waiting for someone on something else to confirm these show up for them, but I think we have a browser issue, crew.

Edit 6:
Also showing up for me on Firefox on Desktop.

I'm experiencing a slightly different edit issue. When I click the edit button nothing happens at all besides the little strobing indicator in the upper right going continuously. I have to use open in a new tab on the edit button to do edits.

I'm using Firefox.

That sounds an awful lot like there's a necessary script being blocked. Do you use any script-blockers or ad-blockers or Decentraleyes? (If so, it's probably misconfigured.)

If not, it's probably a problem between you and QQ. If the problem is a VPN or TOR then it might be fixable, but if it's with something out of your control then maybe not.

Do you get the same problem in other browsers eg Chrome?

Test edit: is there any chance this is a version issue?
Edit 2: no sign of trouble so far.

Well it only appeared as an issue this week, so I didn't think it was a problem with my addons.

Oddly I get the same problem on Microsoft Edge, but not when I tested on Chrome.

Oh, right. I was meaning to re-test this.

Edit 1: I test a lonely road
Edit 2: sounds weird to test alone, but I test alone
Edit 3: won't know when I'm done
Edit 4: but it's good to test and so I still test alone

Edit 5: still on Firefox mobile, still no problems for me.

This issue is still ongoing. Had it happening to me a bunch today which reminded me to come back here for an update.

Still using Brave, which I believe is a fork of Chrome.

The "edit" script is broken.

You can still edit posts if you "open in new tab" the edit button, but even that's a bit buggy in that when you click "confirm" it does register the change but sticks on the edit page.

Been having the same problem lately on my phone and on my pc. Refreshing seems to be the key to getting around it for me.
