I may not be voting, but I just had to chime in here.Arkeus said:I...huh...what? What kind of ancient society are you talking about? Harems have only existed in specific, very peculiar society in the last 5 thousands years as far as i know, and in those societies Harems were for showing off your money.
I guess i don't know much about ancient china, but apart from that...what are you talking about?
In the last 5 thousands years Harems = childish has ben pretty consistant.
I've lived in West Africa and yes, more wives/women/mistresses for the rich and powerful still is a societal fact there.
I have a friend who has 30-some siblings because her mother has three co-wives; her father is a high ranking judge.
Go back four generations and pretty much everyone has a polygamous household in their family tree.
Group sex and such may not be part of the social custom of many societies, but polygamy is.
Even in the West it's traditional.
Shoot, look at the Bible; Solomon is reputed to have had 700 wives and 300 concubines.
His father married his mother after arranging her first husband's death, making her his eight wife.
Popes had mistresses, and children by them; the Borgias are a famous example.
Francois Hollande of France just got caught by the media slipping out of the French presidential palace on a scooter to fuck his actress mistress, and the only thing that makes it special is that this is the first time French media has reported on a president's mistresses.
Or do I have to mention JFK for the US? Or, going back further, Thomas Jefferson? Brigham Young?
The Mormon church only officially outlawed polygamy in 1890, under pressure from the govt, and it had splinter groups
Islam allows four wives.
I could go on.
Make no mistake, it's not a state to be pursued, but de-facto polygamy is a fact of human history, and still practiced in large parts of the world today.
Even if it's nothing like you see in media.
