Fic recommendation/update Thread

Affably Evil by Sarah1281. It's an alternate take on her other story, So Not My Problem, where Malak is the one who gets ambushed by the Jedi, rather than Revan. It's only three chapters, so far, but it looks great. She also has a bunch of great Supernatural fics, if you like that series.

Also, So Not My Problem has a sequel, The Jedi Kind of Had it Coming, which follows the plot of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords, with Revan along for the ride.

Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived Harry Potter loves, and is loved by, his parents, his godfather, and his brother. He isn't mistreated, abused, or neglected. So why is he a Dark Wizard? NonBWL!Harry. Not your typical Harry's brother is the Boy Who Lived story
Has updated the best portrayal of Durmstrang I've seen

Mate, I've got some good news for you.

Thanks for mentioning this amazing fic btw. Read it all in a day.

I was idly scrolling through the reviews when one of the reviewers mentioned that there are several more chapters up at the Dark Lord Potter forums.

I went and found 5 extra chapters there, all the way up to chapter 17. But you need an account to access the page as its restricted to members. I had to register myself.

Heres the link to the thread. The ff.net stops around halfway through page 2 so you can pick up from there once you register.

Affably Evil by Sarah1281 and A Protector's Pride by NeoRyu777 have both been completed. A Protector's Pride is NeoRyu777's take on what might have happened if Ichigo had decided to make a deal with his hollow, and fight it, rather than running away from it, or trying to bury it, after the Soul Society arc. It's pretty good.

So I was exploring SB last night looking for something to read, and stumbled across a real treat.

Blood and Chaos is the story of a Buffy self insert who promptly gets eaten by Drusilla just before the end of season 2. It's got one of the most entertaining villain protagonists I read, ever, and is a comedy that's genuinely laugh out loud funny.

Dusts off the thread...found something that I have to rec. Mostly because its a MtnN fic and those are rare, even more so postseries ones.

Abraxas a Majin tantei Nougami Neuro/katekyou hitman Reborn crossover. In which contrary to yako expectations Neuro is not performing abandonent play after showing up for the first time in three years and has instead fucked up quite hard.

I'm enjoying this so far. Let's see what Arthur can do about the Horde.

Savage Divinty updated today with a fluff side chapter to keep the editing blues away

A modern man finds himself reincarnated in the body of a young slave with no skills and quickly fading memories. Follow his journey to find normalcy while living in a savage world, filled with myth and legends, monsters and Demons. In a land where the strong rule, the weak serve, and bloodshed is a way of life, peace is a luxury few can afford.

I CAST RAISE DEAD.

Deputy. It's a recursive fanfic, but you don't need to read Internship to understand it. Yay for helpful summary! (Still, I'd probably read at least some of Internship.)

Also, it just finished. And it's fucking amazing.

Things Deputy did:
- Characterized Piggot as the badass bitch she deserves to be, possibly better than canon.
- Made us sympathize with a bitch while still having her be a bitch.
- Taylor being a total badass without having powers.
- Actually, A+ characterization in general, including the handful-ish of prominent OCs.
- Political/legal intrigue that was actually interesting.
- Pretty good at fight.
- Pretty good at feels.
- LOOK. IT'S GREAT, GO READ IT, REYEMILE IS AMAZING.

I'll rec Pokemania on Akun. Very much 4chan, but still a pretty good fic, with pretty good characterisation. If you can deal with the fact that feminazis are the current enemy, I heavily recommend it.
It's very active.

Anyone here read ASOIAF: Fury and Flame?

An Avatar: The Last airbender and game of Thrones crossover

Azula and her big barge ends up ISOT into Westeros during the Siege of Stormsend in the middle of the Reach fleet. hilarity ensues. Married to Stannis and they have 3 kids.

Choice quote:
"Do you think I wanted to be here? On this primitive world populated by unwashed barbarians? Do you think I wanted to marry your father? Do you think I want to kiss that drunken oaf's ass? No! There are many things I do not want, Ursa Baratheon! Yet I remain silent and accept the needs of the legacy bestowed upon me. I was poised to inherit the world, my world, and now I am reduced to clawing my way up through the dredges to even come within spitting distance of the authority I once held! Do not presume to speak to me of your 'wants' for they pale in comparison to my own!" her mother stood close enough that Ursa could feel her hot breath against her face. Ursa had nearly been of equal height to her mother, and yet she felt smaller than a mouse before her gaze.

"I married your father because of the needs of my crew! We had been taken from our world and thrown here into this putrid excuse for one. They looked to me for direction! Me! A fifteen-year-old girl! The fate of an entire nation was placed on my shoulders! The Firenation, thousands of years of history, balancing over the edge of oblivion! I needed to be decisive, confident, and fearless! I could not allow my 'wants' to interfere! They were afraid and on the verge of collapse, but I would be damned if I allowed my country and what remained of its people to disintegrate and fade into the nothingness. I was not going have the Firenation become a footnote in this world's history! So I did what was necessary! I swallowed my pride and married a man I did not know! I allied with people I did not know. I bore children that I had not been ready for! Because they needed it! They needed a home. They needed stability! I was their Firelord now, and until the time when the Firelord is answerable to no one, the needs of our people will always outweigh the wants of the Firelord! So tell me Ursa. Do you want to be Firelord, or do you need to be Firelord? Freedom or duty? Think carefully, for the former will see you replaced by Ty Lee, and the later will see you unhappy for as long as you choose to bear the crown."

Her mother walked past Ursa and began to trek back towards Winterfell. Ursa stood there, rooted to the spot. The verbal lashing her mother had given her, had added bitter clarity towards a phrase her brother would often say, in jest, when their mother grew angry.

"Seven kingdoms united in fear of Azula Baratheon…"

And Ironborn humiliated and the iron mines of their lands used to make the iron hull ships that will crush them again if they try another rebellion.

Here a few fanfics I'd recommend:

Unmoored:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12481654/1/Unmoored

This is a literal SI fic, where a woman from earth jumps realities every time she dies. Sometimes she lasts a few days, sometimes she lasts years in various worlds. It's mostly a Hobbit fic, but with long flashbacks to GoT, Star Trek, Star Wars, Defiance, Sword of Truth, Avengers, and others.

Purple Days:
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/purple-days-asoiaf-joffrey-timeloop-au.450894/

Joffrey wakes up in his room about 3-6 months before the start of the novels every time he dies. Epic mystery and adventure story.

Set the Skies Ablaze:
Written by cywscross, this is a 3-chapter and then dead crossover between K Project and Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Even though it died rather quickly, the writing is pretty damn great and the concept is well done. It features an older more mature Tsuna who is lost in the world of K Project with seemingly none of his Familia having come along for the ride. He is tired but still fearsome and manages to get on the good side of HOMRA quite quickly.

Unfortunately, the work is currently only available on ArchiveofOurOwn due to the FF.net version being removed for some reason. Which sucks because for some reason the formatting on AoOO is kinda sucky and makes it feel weird to read it. Fortunateyl wayback machine still has the fic saved so if anyone is interested in reading that version here is the link.

Currently reading aa new Arthas insert into Game of thrones. Very well written fic and portrays Arthas superbly, especially his feelings about the things he had done during the latter part of his life:
https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13549046/1/The-King-Is-Dead
The people called him the Pious Prince. His friends claimed he was a Baratheon, and his enemies called him a Lannister. They were all wrong for before any of those things, he was Arthas Menethil, the Damned Prince of Lordaeron, the Betrayer, kinslayer and kingslayer. His sins were legion. Mother have mercy on his soul.
Warcraft & A song of Ice and Fire, T, English, Drama & Fantasy, chapters: 9, words: 53k+, favs: 226, follows: 248, updated: Apr 17 published: Apr 11, Arthas Menethil, Eddard S./Ned, Joffrey B.

The other stories by this author is also excellent.
A Lelouch insert into A Game of Thrones:

Zero Requiem » Lelouch dreamed about the past glories of his Valyrian family, when they'd held great keeps and their fleets ruled the Narrow Sea. But some nights, he dreamed of a life that wasn't his. He dreamed of an empire, war, and tyranny. Most of all, Lelouch Velaryon dreamed of revolution. (Lelouch from Code Geass inserted into ASOIAF, set in the War of the Ninepenny Kings era).
A song of Ice and Fire & Code Geass, T, English, Adventure, chapters: 29, words: 159k+, favs: 683, follows: 743, updated: Apr 10 published: Jul 13, 2019, Lelouch L., C.C., Tywin L., Aerys I

lmao

One of these days I really shouldread Delinquency Tanya and Political Tanya, haha :p
While I haven't read the first one, I'm in the process of reading the second, and strongly recommend it. It easily qualify into my top ten fanfiction of all times.
I really should get around to reading those, my discord gang keep gushing over it.
A Young Woman's Political Record (Youjo Senki/Saga of Tanya the Evil) really is worth reading. For those who have never heard of the story, the premise plays off of the main character "Tanya" (an isekai'd Head Of Hiring who got pushed in front of a train by the person they fired earlier in the day, followed by said salaryman telling God to his face that while he's powerful he isn't "God", leading to God reincarnating this stubborn man as a small magical girl to make a point) of the Youjo Senki series, also known as "Tanya The Evil", in that her country, Germania, loses the "Great War" (WW1) and is forced under an insane peace treaty. Tanya, looking for an easy job that will put money in her pocket and food on the table decides to go into politics, both to deal with the idiotic monetary policies of the current government, to fight against the Communists who have been gaining power, and to not have to do much by being a member of a 'radical' political party who she thinks will never get much public support (thus she doesn't need to worry about any of her campaign promises). Things... do not go as she had planned. At all.

What makes the fic notable is the humor, quality writing and characterization, the fact that this isn't "Adolf Hitler as a magical girl" despite some minor similarities (Adolf actually exists and is both married and a baker in this story), and the fact that despite the oddness of the setting nothing has been SOD breaking. The misunderstandings are natural and believable (leading to some of the humor), Tanya's failures are why she's succeeding in places (she wanted a nice easy job she could easily retire from, not to end up ruling the damned country while trying to prepare for war), and this isn't a reversed WW2 so much as a WW2 with different alliances and players (amusingly it looks more like our world's version of WW1 kicking off than what happened in this story's reality with their Great War (their WW1 started with an accidental border incident)).

So yeah, good writing and characterization, good humor, amusing failures, new situations, and decently written action.

Good solid recommendation for this story.

When-Worlds-Collide and Death-Cab-for-Cutie are to really good stories that cross Supernatural with NCIS.

Wolverines-Wendigos-and-Winchesters is a Suprenatural/X-Men crossover.

Unique is a crossover born in the pits of Hell. Supernatural/Dexter

The-Only-Logical-Conclusion is a surprisingly funny, and well thought out cross of Dresden Files and Star Trek 2009.

Great-Grandpa-Cap is an actually well done story of Spider-Man as Captain America's relative.

Make-A-Wish [borderline NSFW] Harry Potter AU

Backward-With-Purpose-Part-I-Always-and-Always and Backward-With-Purpose-Part-II-The-Book-of-Albus are amazing HP stories, and where I got a lot of my time travel ideas [but not all of them], and part 1, along with When worlds collide ranks as one of the top three fan fictions I've ever read.

I think I need to stop now or I'll have dozens. :)

A couple more HP recs.

After the End. A very good slow burn post-Hogwarts story. The characters have a lot of room to breath in this one. Of note is that it was written before the end of the HP books, and, if I remember correctly, just after Goblet of Fire. As such, it's obviously not consistent with the later books.

Another good Peggy Sue along the same lines is Nightmares of Futures Past. It's still in progress, but the author is PAINFULLY slow at updating it due to health issues and split focus, so go in expecting that. As in, the last chapter was published 5 years ago. On the upside, there are 43 longish chapters available, so there's quite a bit to read before you run out.

I think I need to stop now or I'll have dozens.
I think I speak for everyone when I say:
