General chat thread

Hey. So, kinda new here. I have been wanting to write fanfic for a while and have some ideas to write it. Couldn't post on FF.net or Ao3 due to losing my old email that had my logins there and came across this website...seems like the place to start my fanfic writing. Anyone able to help me find the discussion threads for where I should start? Been reading fanfics for over a decade now...would appreciate it if possible!
Shouldn't you be able to send a note to AO3 technical support, if you remember what your old email was, to request your old account be linked to your new email?

It's not happening for FF.net, though, because it isn't clear that website has a support person anymore

Already tried. They told me that they couldn't do it.

With all the Raildex SI fics out there I can't help but think about what psychic powers I would want if I ever got Isekai'd there. Outside of something like Dark Matter that supposedly let you do a bunch of crazy shit I think I would want telekinetics. Sure it's a bit basic but the ability to be able to grab my phone from the otherside of the room with my mind because I'm to lazy to get up really appeals to me. Plus the idea that if you strong and skilled enough you could potentially fly by using your abilities on yourself.

>that urge to sacrifice your life for your loved ones by pouring your entire being into one super attack against a planet-sized antagonist
Ngl, I dream about this.
There is a reason this is a relatable meme.

That nightmare where you're getting attacked by a swarm of bees while trying to get the beehive off your front porch before one of them suddenly glows red, then explodes so hard you wake up.

I started watching Severance. I swear, every woman in this show is batshit insane lmao

I've watched Midsommar or Heredity twice a day or more for the past month. I thin Ari Aster is eating my soul guys. I like the movies, but this is a bit much, y'know?

Where do I put a YouTube concept album about a toxic furry lesbian relationship?

It's my new favorite genre.

Finally getting my motivation back for properly producing content, which is great.

Cheers, have a wonderful thanksgiving as well!

watch Severed, it's a pretty good drama with some comedic elements. I wouldn't quite call it a black comedy, but nice.

Are you high? Drunk? There's a point where an argument becomes fundamentally absurd... and there's a point past it where it becomes outright stupid.

We have literally thousands of years of evidence proving it. It is readily available. Legal codes protecting the weak over the interests of the rich wouldn't stand out so much if they weren't so rare. Colonialism would never have happened if they weren't so rare. The French Revolution would never have happened if they weren't so rare. The Russian Revolution wouldn't have happened if they weren't so rare. Slavery wouldn't have happened if they weren't so rare.

Your argument here is just an extension of what I said earlier, you're taking a singular incident to make the absurd claim that it's the norm and it's just as absurd as if you cited a benevolent monarch to claim all monarchs were benevolent. Asking for proof is as utterly absurd as well. Where, exactly, do you want me to start? Listing the thousands of names of monarchs? Citing the hundreds of previous legal codes and every change a monarch ever made? How the Magna Carta boosted the rights of Barons but said nothing about peasants? How Sparta treated the 80ish percent of their population that were Helots? How the Roman Senate actively served itself at the expense of everyone else until the Emperor's took over and made it serve them?

You're asking somebody to prove the sky is blue because you saw it orange once.

Then go ahead, present one. Present a legal code that doesn't protect the weak from exploitation.

Humans being hypocritical and flawed is a given. But the natural instinct remains undeniable, to the point we have centuries and millennia of legal codes and myths about how it is the duty of all Kings and Princes to protect the weak from exploitation.

Amazing how you can torpedo your own premise by trying to argue in favor of it.
If the natural tendency for what you are arguing existed, then why have explicitly worded legal code enshrining it when it would be a natural consequence? Conversely, if a natural tendency to assail and damage that other thing was so strong that you need constant legislative force to curtail it was a constant across history, doesn't that prove that human nature is not what you think it is, and is, in fact, very much the animalistic and selfish set of instincts enlightenment era thinkers argued was not the natural state?

Now I see why public personalities get irritated when journalists clip their quotes.

Most people are nice to dogs.

But a few people are very, very mean to dogs.

We have laws about not being very, very mean to dogs because of those few.

TIL "Hapless" means unlucky, not "unaware of what one is walking into" though that still sort of applies.

I also learned "Hap" is indeed its own word/root meaning chance or lucky, from the original Norse "Happ" meaning "Good Luck"

I need to start using this knowledge for evil immediately.

Now I await for the supercut of the best Twitter MHA meltdowns.
